Chapter 610 – The Poor Apprentice and the Serious Senior
Chapter 610 – The Poor Apprentice and the Serious Senior
Byron was still used to treating the lodging place as his laboratory, taking the black powder and going back to his room to delve into it alone.
Saul greeted the elder who he hadn’t seen in a long time – even though the elder was no longer as powerful as he was now – and was a day late in going to see Noah, the young apprentice who had been left by himself in the messy domain.
The chaotic area is still full of black sand, and as far as the eye can see, the terrain is gently undulating, with no mountains or forests in sight. Only in the end of the sky can see some black and gray like the undulation of the mountains.
Saul turned around and saw a small crooked house on a tiny hill.
Or maybe it’s better to call it a small shack.
The materials used to build the house were mainly some unused shelves that Saul had thrown at Noah.
Marsh, the cart driver who no longer drove the cart, provided huge mushrooms, but unfortunately these mushrooms did not thrive in the chaotic domain. They could only grow to the thickness of an index finger in a potted plant, and were barely used for food.
Saul took a few steps to the modest house and circled around without seeing Noah.
He simply flew into the air and soon saw the young apprentice working with his head down in a lowland in the distance.
Sol flew over just in time to see Noah pulling a dark green plant out of the ground, something like aloe vera.
“Mentor!” Noah looked up and saw Sol, and burst into tears of excitement.
The days in the chaotic domain were very difficult, he wanted to meet other people again and was afraid of meeting other people. Living alone, there was almost no sense of time passing except for the sunrise and sunset.
Coupled with the fact that Saul didn’t come over within a month, Noah hadn’t slept well for the past two days and had been worried that Saul had left himself alone.
Looking at the teary-eyed little apprentice, Saul also knew what he was worried about, and couldn’t help but smile and touch the other’s head.
When the small algae flew out from the back of Saul’s neck and encircled Noah’s belly, Saul flew back to his hut with Noah.
“Didn’t you use the witchcraft props I gave you when you built this house?”
There were sorcery props that could also be used by ordinary people without magic.
Noah scrunched up his neck, “I-I thought it would be better to save more magic crystals before familiarizing myself with this place, so I didn’t bother to use them.”
He was a little worried that Saul would blame himself for not trusting him.
But Sol recognized Noah’s choice, “It’s also good, after all, you’re the one living here alone, it’s more important to be assertive. What are you holding in your hand, a plant from here?”
Noah raised his hand, “It’s a plant with more moisture, I tested it with the reagent you left behind and it’s basically safe, so I want to transplant it near the house to see if I can cultivate some more.”
Even though Saul had left a lot of food for Noah as well, he was still trying to develop new ways to survive.
One by one, Saul looked over the other things Noah had picked up, a handful of dried out plants, the remains of what looked suspiciously like the bodies of creatures, and a lot of rocks that weren’t much use.
Because Noah’s knowledge base was still insufficient, Saul didn’t criticize anything harshly, but encouraged him to continue exploring, but only if he kept himself safe.
“How many basic runes have you learned now?”
“Three.” Noah immediately squatted down and directly wrote it out on the ground with his finger.
Without the means to infuse magic power, and not being able to mobilize spiritual power, Noah could only rote memorize the runes’ appearance now.
“You were able to learn two runes by yourself without anyone knowing? It seems that your graphic talent is not bad. But wait until you learn compound runes later, this little talent won’t be enough.”
Saul also squatted down unapologetically, “Let me teach you a method called the coordinate method, which is convenient for you to memorize, and the most crucial thing is that it is convenient for you to understand composite runes in the future.”
No one was around, Saul directly used the earth as a board, reintegrating his experience of learning runes combined with his experience of casting spells over the years to teach the young apprentice a set of coordinate method.
Noah’s eyes widened as if he had seen a new world. The day was rushed through in a hunger to learn, and Saul finally urged Noah to be careful of monsters, and even more so, intelligent creatures, before leaving the chaotic domain and returning to the Pure Spirit Sorcerer’s Tower.
Sensing Saul’s return, the butler Hope immediately came to the door.
“Lord Tower Master, Mr. Byron had come to see you at night.”
Senior Byron was actually quite a homely person, and wouldn’t usually take the initiative to come looking without something.
Saul rushed to find Byron, and saw that his room was already littered with draft paper.
“…… “Saul stood in the doorway and actually had a feeling that he had no way to get down, “You’re adapting quite quickly here!”
Byron looked up, not even paying attention to Saul’s tirade, “Come look at this.”
Saul quipped over the mess all over the floor and came to the table, and was shocked to find that Byron’s hands were covered in blisters. Some of the blisters had ruptured and were still oozing greenish-colored juice.
“Contamination?” Saul immediately frowned.
Instead, Byron pointed to the parchment spread out flat on the table, “Look at this.”
Only then did Saul shift his gaze to the paper.
Only to see that the parchment was filled with words written crookedly, coming to a conclusion at the end.
…… The formula for the composition of Black Powder (Byron’s shortened name for the powder that Saul had brought back from the Chaotic Domain, which had the same pollutant properties as Black Tide) was reversible, and once one grasped such a formula, the Black Tide pollution that was unique to the Land of the Undiscovered could be converted into Black Powder in an inert state as well… …by the same token, the reverse formula operates to also restore inert black powder to active Kuroshio pollution.
Saul’s mouth slowly opened wide, he didn’t expect Byron to have come to this conclusion after only a day’s work.
“Look, do you see any problems with my derivation? If you don’t see a problem either, then I’ll derive the formula along this direction next. Well …… let’s just call it the inertization formula.”
Saul looked over the entire formula, and surprisingly didn’t find anything logically incorrect at a glance.
His first reaction then was to take it to Camus and show it to him, but he vetoed that thought in the next second.
This inert formula was better for him to work on it with Senior Byron.
One couldn’t rely on Camus for everything, that would make him lose the habit of independent thinking.
“I didn’t find any problems for the time being. It could also be that the time is too short. You let me take it back and study it.” Saul immediately cast a 0th-rank copying spell and made a copy of the parchment that didn’t have any magical properties.
This was something that Saul hadn’t been expecting, and it immediately intrigued him.
If it was really possible to inert the pollution of the Masterless Land into a virtually harmless black powder, then wouldn’t it be possible to prevent himself and those around him from alienating the pollution in the future when the Black Tide did break out?
He had too many things going on lately, and even though he had gotten his hands on the black powder a long time ago, he hadn’t had the time to study it in depth.
As a result, Byron suddenly pressed his palm against the parchment that Saul had copied.
Juice splashed everywhere.
“No way!” Byron, however, refused to study this subject with Saul, “You’ve just entered the second rank, and your strength is all unstable. I heard Lord Kira mention that entering the second stage is different from before, the knowledge system and world perception need to be re-perfected, so it’s best if you don’t participate in any research until then.”
Looking at the serious-looking Byron, Sol raised his hands in surrender, “Fine, fine, but you’d better let me treat your hands first. How come they’re all burnt after not seeing them for a day?”
