Chapter 587 – Adopted a Little Apprentice
Chapter 587: Accepted a Little Apprentice
Saul and Brando didn’t end up negotiating, and the latter had to leave in disappointment.
Gaga Drum instead stayed and continued to trade with Sol.
It was only because he brought Blandu, which might have made Saul unhappy, that Gaga Drum deliberately lowered the price some more.
Saul asked Gaga Drum while picking out the goods, “Is there something big happening in the Lordless Land lately?”
Gaga Drum told Saul that they were scouting for danger everywhere, ostensibly to make a code of the Masterless Lands, but Gaga Drum thought they were looking for something. Just not sure what to look for.
The three third-order wizards seem to be trying to act jointly, and the Wind Demon and the Firefly Lord, who were once somewhat conflicted, have put aside their grudges for the time being.
“The third-order sorcerers are all looking for something, and that something could be in every dangerous area. They only know it’s there, but they don’t know where it is, so they can only use the dumbest method of elimination.” Saul held his chin and chanted in his mind, “Why does it feel like some kind of prophecy?”
His expression gradually became grave, “If it’s really some sort of thing that would make a third-ranked sorcerer find it even at the cost of manpower and resources. I’m afraid that the content of the prophecy is either some kind of extremely rare thing or some kind of extremely terrifying disaster.”
Sol smashed his mouth, “I really hope it’s the former.”
After completing the deal, Sol helped Gaga Drum with the contamination removal one last time.
From now on, Gaga Drum would not get caught up in the contamination in the giant traveling bag behind him, as long as he used the stand-in doll Saul had made for him properly.
Of course, besides the traveling bag, there are many other contaminations and dangers in the Land of the Unknowns, and that’s outside the protection of the double doll.
Saul returned to the Sorcerer’s Tower and saw Noah following the butler down from the second floor.
Noah’s face still had a few hints of panic, and as he descended the stairs, he turned back from time to time, nearly falling, and then being picked up by the housekeeper who had been prepared for this, who picked up his collar and put it on the ground.
“Lord Saul.”
Seeing Saul who came back from outside, Noah couldn’t help but run forward.
This Noah had been hyped up and experienced a lot of despair and danger. But the original age was probably less than ten years old.
When he stayed in the Sorcerer’s Tower for two days, the kind of liveliness in his bones slowly recovered.
“Lord Saul, I just went to see your laboratory on the third floor with Mr. Hope. It’s amazing!”
Noah used to only think how powerful wizards were, how dangerous their sorcery was, and how bizarre their behavior was.
That’s why his desire to become a sorcerer apprentice was more of an admiration for the strong mentality.
But after seeing Saul’s (surface) laboratory, he realized that what sorcerers really study is knowledge.
And only knowledge is the existence that makes people go back and forth, day and night, fascinated by it!
Noah couldn’t read it yet, but the magnificent world mesmerized him.
“Lord Saul, can I really learn sorcery knowledge from you?” Noah tilted his head, and although he was pale, his eyes were filled with light.
Saul had been about to ask him if he wanted a peaceful but short life, or a life that was dangerous, full of difficult tasks, but possibly even shorter?
But now it seemed that Noah’s choice was obvious.
“It seems you have made your decision. Still, I have to warn you that after becoming an apprentice, you may encounter very many dangers, and perhaps die in a monster attack the next day.”
“Yes, my lord. Mr. Steward has told me everything.” Noah thought for a moment and fell to his knees with a “plop”, “Maybe it’s because I’ve died once, I’m no longer so afraid of death now. Instead, the thought that if I couldn’t even peek into the magical world where you are before I die, that would only make me very, very, very scared.”
“Please accept me, I will definitely study hard and desperately fulfill the tasks you have given me!”
Saul raised his hand, and an invisible force lifted Noah to his feet.
“There’s no need for that. You can just call me Mentor directly.” Saul asked the butler to teach Noah the etiquette between wizards in the evening, and then led the way up to the top floor of the wizard tower.
Noah had only stayed on the first floor of the Sorcerer’s Tower for the past two days, and had just visited the third floor, and was now following Saul as he walked to continue upwards, filled with novelty and excitement.
Once he arrived at the top floor of the Sorcerer’s Tower, he realized that from the inside, the circular platform at the top of the tower was actually surrounded by a huge transparent barrier. From the outside, there was nothing at the top of the tower.
But on the inside, a huge square could then be seen.
It was taller than Thor, and you couldn’t touch the edge with both palms stretched out flat.
This square was black iron in color, and upon closer inspection, it was not smooth like iron, but seemed to be full of small uneven particles.
“Don’t stare at the grains on it.” Saul admonished, “Those are blurred witchcraft spells, if you stare at them, your eyes will be sucked up.”
Noah froze and hastily averted his eyes, “Yes, mentor.”
Saul led Noah around to the other side of the square.
On this side of the square wall, there was a headless body hanging.
The upper half of the corpse had been stripped naked. The hands and feet were in a diagonal position.
Upon closer inspection, there were no nails or chains on top of this corpse, as if it was adsorbed on top of the square.
Saul stepped forward, and a small knife suddenly appeared in his hand, and made a slight cut on one of the corpse’s arms.
The skin and flesh parted, revealing the pale musculature inside.
There were some black and brown impurities hidden in the skin.
Black tentacles then reached out from the back of Sol’s neck, directly lifting his entire body onto the square.
From Noah’s perspective, he couldn’t see what was on top of the square, but could only see Saul crouch down and reach inside and stir it like water.
When he withdrew his hand, his palm was covered with a layer of black, sticky liquid.
The liquid kept sliding downward, only to slam upward halfway down, picking at Saul’s wrist.
It was like a hand that, before falling, jumped back up violently to grab Saul.
Saul’s face did not change, gently shaking his wrist, the black liquid eventually fell back into the square, not even a little splash sound.
Saul jumped down from the square again and spread out his palms to show Noah.
“I’ll give you a month to learn some specialized knowledge, and in a month’s time, I’ll send you to a sparsely populated place to collect these black particles.”
Saul’s palm had a layer of fine black particles that looked like sand, but when Saul twisted his fingers through it, it immediately turned into a finer and smaller powder.
“This is something I’ll call Black Magic Powder for now. I will teach you how to distinguish it as well as how to gather it, and leave you some survival necessities as well as a split stick of kohlrabi.
When the time comes, your main task will be to gather it as well as figure out how to stay alive all the time. I don’t have the means to be with you all the time, but I will go over to check on you every once in a while to guide you in your studies.”
Noah nodded repeatedly as he stared at the black powder in Saul’s palm, feeling a vague sense of wonder in his heart that this thing was magical and at the same time seemed to be very dangerous.
It made his heart pound, not knowing whether it was fear or excitement.
Saul collected all the black magic powder in his palm in a small bottle with a seal.
The bottle was then given to Noah to keep him familiar with his goal for the rest of his learning career.
Noah carefully received the bottle and clutched it with both hands, placing it on his chest in a very cherished manner.
“Next then,” Thor mentally thought about the staffing arrangement, “you’re the one who will learn the common language of wizards from Agu first.”
