Chapter 585 – Short-lived Apprentice

Chapter 585 – Short-Lived Apprentice

“Surprisingly, you came out in one piece?” A voice sounded behind Noah.

Noah’s wildly beating heart only calmed down a little at this time.

He slumped to the ground and turned his head to see the leader of his hunting patrol, Wizard Brown.

“Lord Brown.” Noah struggled to get himself to his feet, trying to make a good impression in front of the wizard.

But bravado did him no favors.

“It seems you’re in pretty good shape. You were able to keep your head even when you encountered an abnormality, and your adaptability to the spirit potion is also good. Unfortunately, if your mental body hadn’t already been destroyed by the previous medication, there would have been hope to become a low-ranked sorcerer apprentice.”

Noah’s movement to get up was stunned in place by Wizard Brown’s words, and he couldn’t move for a long time.

“I, I can’t become a sorcerer’s apprentice anymore?” Noah’s hope-filled bubble was burst.

He suddenly remembered the complex emotions in the other party’s eyes when he requested Sorcerer Sol to become an apprentice.

“So it turns out. It turns out I lost my chance a long time ago.”

He felt weak.

All the strength had been drained away with the dashed hopes.

Seeing Noah frozen in place and his patience just now wearing thin, Brown glanced at the mushroom forest ahead of him and compared it to the map he held in his hand.

“Up ahead is Lake Rhine. Since you weren’t hurt in the Summoning Woodlands, it’s just about time to explore Lake Rhine before.”

Noah’s heart instantly went cold.

The people who explored their paths took turns, and after one person finished exploring a dangerous place, they would switch to the next person. If the next person died, let the next person go again.

Because every time they finished probing, they would exhaust the energy of the probers, and some of them couldn’t even stand up anymore.

Noah didn’t expect to get such a result when he intended to be strong and show off.

Seeing that Noah was slow to move, Brown raised his hand and remotely pointed it at him.

“Ah!!!”

In the next second, Noah crouched down holding his head.

The pain came and went quickly.

Noah had just crouched down when the pain disappeared. It was as if everything just now was an illusion.

But Dr. Brown’s words made Noah recognize reality.

“Get going, or the next time you’ll be in pain all night.”

Noah didn’t dare delay any longer, nor did he have the energy to grieve any longer as he scrambled to his feet and stumbled toward the mushroom forest ahead.

Looking at the mushroom forest that appeared taller and taller the closer he got, Noah no longer knew what mood he was in.

This place was much weirder than the woods just now.

He had never seen mushrooms this tall and in such abundance.

“Why is this place called Lake Rhine? There’s clearly no lake here? Could it be a swamp underneath the mushrooms?” Thinking made Noah gradually calm down.

Even though there was no longer any possibility of becoming a Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Noah didn’t want to die out there just like that.

He would try to find a way out of these dangerous places.

With one last glance back at Wizard Brown, he saw that the others had also arrived from a side detour and were looking at him expressionlessly.

Noah took a deep breath and stepped into the mushroom forest.

The mushroom forest was densely spread out, and Noah had to be very careful not to run into the mushrooms.

Although the grayish-white mushrooms were usually not poisonous, he did his best to avoid touching them.

Strangely enough, these large, creepy looking mushrooms didn’t undergo any horrific changes.

With his heart on pins and needles, Noah rounded yet another large mushroom, and before his eyes opened up to the appearance of a white mist-shrouded, frozen lake.

“So this …… is Lake Rhine.”

In the center of the Rhine Lake stood a pure white tower. The top of the tower strangely had a layer of circular platform that was wider than the area of the tower.

It made the entire tower look a little bit like a mushroom as well.

At this moment, a person seemed to walk out from the bottom of the tower in the distance. Just because of the distance plus the hazy fog, Noah couldn’t see the other person’s appearance.

However, while Noah couldn’t see through the fog, Saul could.

At this time, he had brought a bunch of materials with him and was preparing to go out and find a hidden place to set up a spell formation. Unexpectedly, he was informed by Marsh that a group of people had come outside the mushroom forest of the Wizard Tower.

A little guy inside this group walked into the mushroom forest alone.

It didn’t look like he had come over to steal mushrooms. Saul happened to go out to take a look and saw a familiar face.

“It’s him? How did he come so far away?”

Saul still had some impression of this little boy, and it was not a bad one.

Thinking about how Marsh said there was a group of people outside, but let him in alone, he was more than likely being used as an experiment.

With a snap of his fingers, Saul summoned the Demon Wolf that was resting on its back, sat on the back seat, and directly commanded the Demon Wolf to run towards the boy.

Noah’s first instinct was to run out the door when he saw the people on the other side approaching him.

However, as soon as he turned around, several living vines stretched out from underneath the land, directly curling up his arms and legs and lifting the man in the air.

Noah immediately wanted to struggle and scream, but he realized that his cries for help would not attract the rescue of the hunting patrol squad outside, but instead might even provoke the people on the opposite side, so he forced himself to hold back his fear and didn’t yell.

But while the mouth could be closed, the body’s reaction could not be controlled.

All the places on his entire body that were not bound by vines were trembling.

The heartbeat was so intense that it almost broke through his chest!
Until ……

“Hello again.”

As the distance shortened, the person behind the mist became clearer.

Noah’s eyes widened and his tightly closed mouth unconsciously opened, “Lord Sorcerer?”

“Little Algae, put the person down.” Saul had the doppelganger of Little Algae put the boy down, “How did you come to be here at Lake Rhine?”

Noah had by now left behind the wording Wizard Brown had taught them, and seeing Saul, he told the truth.

“…… Lord Wind Demon organizes many hunting patrols, but actually lets ordinary people test all the dangerous areas one by one?” Sol rubbed his chin, “And why is that?”

Morton: [Sounds like they’re doing tests to find something].

Penny suddenly says to Saul, “Brother Saul, this child is dying.”

Saul froze and squinted his eyes, and saw that the boy’s body had run out of gas.

His spiritual body had originally been catalyzed, and now it had been stimulated once again by some unknown drug he had taken.

And these probing instruments on his body should be the reason why he was forced to activate his spiritual energy by the other sorcerers.

If Saul hadn’t given him a potion to repair his spiritual body in Survivor Gurin, he was afraid that he would have died of the exhaustion syndrome after his spiritual body exploded.

But now, Noah didn’t have much time left.

A mental body that had been forcibly energized without reciprocal magical protection was like sticking one’s hand into corrosive acid without protective gloves. Soon there would be nothing left but tired white bones.

At this moment, the boy’s face looking up at Saul seemed to have overlapped with a skeleton.

Saul sighed in his heart and did not say anything more, “Going to the island?”

Noah already knew that he could not become a sorcerer’s apprentice, and despite his curiosity about Saul’s tower, he restrained himself.

“No, my lord, I have a quest to return to. It’s enough for me to walk this distance anyway.”

Noah didn’t want to enter Sol’s Sorcerer’s Tower with this many testing instruments on his body, it would be bad if the Brown Sorcerer’s testing instruments were harmful to the Sorcerer’s Tower.

Anyway, the distance from the center of the lake to his place should be just within the testing range of the instruments, and the instruments didn’t give out a warning.

“I won’t delay you any longer, Lord Sol.” Noah respectfully bowed to Sol, “I will return now.”

After saying that, he carried a full set of instruments on his back and ran outside with big strides.

Saul just stood in place, looking at his back in silence.

Perhaps because he knew that this place was Sorcerer Sol’s territory, Noah no longer felt that it was scary when he walked through the mushroom forest again.

There was even something cute about the big round-headed mushrooms.

He ran all the way out of the mushroom forest and saw that several people from Wizard Brown were outside.

He slowed down, easing his breathing and heartbeat that had sped up from running.

“Lord Brown, I’ve tested this place-“

The voice came to an abrupt halt, and the violent heartbeat felt like the pause button had been pressed.

Noah’s mouth opened slightly, and he fell straight back.

“Bang!”

The dry, hard ground stirred up only a little bit of floating dust.

Wizard Brown stepped forward, sharply stripped Noah of the test apparatus, and, without bothering him again, turned back to the others and said, “The apparatus gave no warning. Let’s go to the next place.”
