Chapter 633 – Nightmares and Tears
Chapter 633 – Nightmares and Tears
Duncan noticed the abnormality on the elderly elf in front of him, noting that the other party’s body was taking on a translucent appearance as if it would disappear from this world at any moment.
Duncan’s eyes change obviously also fell into the eyes of the other party.
“As you can see, Mr. Captain, some interesting changes are taking place in me,” Lune smiled openly, even raising his hand to show off his most translucent palm, “a powerful force is attempting to bring me to ‘His ‘ side.”
Duncan’s expression changed slightly at that, “The power of Silantis – I didn’t realize that you, the ‘Pope’, would be affected.”
“After all, I’m an elf too, and it looks like something rooted deep in the soul of our race doesn’t care if I’m a ‘pope’ or not,” Lune spoke in a calm tone, “I felt that powerful invitation –Silantis is calling all elves to return to the Mother Tree.”
Duncan, however, frowned as he realized something was amiss, “But you’re sane – that’s not quite like what I’ve learned about other elves.”
“Because I’m not going.” Lune said with a gentle smile.
Duncan: “……?”
“Being a ‘Pope’ should always be something special, and at the very least for a while, I’ll be able to turn down an ‘invitation’ from Silentis,” Lune said, looking up behind behind Duncan, “Mr. Captain, mind if I come aboard and talk? I have more or less some information about the current state of affairs.”
Duncan didn’t refuse, merely nodding after a few seconds of silence while taking two steps to the side while gazing calmly into the old man’s eyes, “If your teachings don’t mind you stepping aboard a ship of subspace shadows.”
“The canon derives from God,” Lune spoke nonchalantly as he stepped unconcernedly past the end of the trestle and onto the deck of the Lost Country before continuing, “But the interpretation is human – turn around and I’ll meet with the bishops Just round up when you do.”
The corner of Duncan’s mouth twitched, suddenly realizing that this Pope seemed to be a bit different from what he had imagined, and immediately after that he noticed that all of those attendants that Lune had brought with him were all parked on the trestle bridge, and didn’t seem to have the intention of following them onto the ship, which made him a bit surprised, “Aren’t these attendants and guards coming with you? Are you going to board the ship alone?”
Lun had already taken several steps out by this time, and glanced back at him, “They won’t follow, because there are some things that are better known by fewer people.”
The old man didn’t look worried at all, and seeing his attitude so open, Duncan of course had no problem with it, so he waved his hand to those who stayed on the trestle, and turned around to walk beside Lune-except that he couldn’t help but ask one more question as he crossed the deck: “You just came here alone, with no escort at all. here alone, and not worried about safety if you don’t have an escort at all?”
Lune glanced up at Duncan, “If you truly mean ill will, can just a few guards ensure my safety on the Lost Country?”
Duncan thought hard and answered matter-of-factly, “They should have a hard time ensuring their own safety.”
“Wouldn’t that be fine – I’m a pragmatic man, it’s the most basic of ethics as a scholar.” Lune said casually, before continuing in the direction of the captain’s cabin with Duncan in tow.
On the way, Duncan told the “Pope” about the current situation, including the “disappearance” of Lightwind Harbor and the current situation in the city-state.
When he was about to arrive at the aft deck, Lune stopped, he raised his head, and looked over the side of the Lost Country ship to the vast ocean on the other side of the ship.
That was where the Lightwind Harbor once stood.
But now all that was there was a stretch of water that was gradually glowing gold under the setting sun, and glowing geometries floating silently on the surface of the sea in the distance.
Duncan could still see the invisible threads, as dense as hairs, floating above that sea, but to Lune’s eyes, the sea was completely empty.
“It was like that when I came here,” Duncan said casually, noticing Lune’s vision, “I don’t suppose you think I’m the one who lost it.”
“…… It did cross someone’s mind when we first arrived in these waters, and it would have crossed Banister’s mind even more if he had been here,” Lune hesitated and spoke in a somewhat odd tone, “but please understand that a city-state just disappeared out of thin air, it’s just too unbelievable, and the Lost Country was still on the scene – even if we knew that it had something to do with the ‘Dreams of the Nameless One’, it’s inevitable that some people would have imagined it.”
Duncan didn’t say anything, just stepped forward and opened the door to the captain’s cabin in an inviting gesture.
With an obvious look of curiosity, Lune followed Duncan into this unknown and mysterious place filled with countless strange legends and shrouded in horror for the world.
“The captain is back!” Alice, who was waiting in the captain’s room, was the first to greet him, and she happily ran towards Duncan, but stopped immediately afterward, “…… Who is this old man?”
Lune looked at the mannequin that suddenly appeared in front of him with some dismay. However, he quickly reacted and matched the information in his mind, “If I’m not wrong, this is Ms. Alice?”
“Yes,” Alice gave a small nod and looked at the strange old man who had just walked in with a curious expression, “Who are you?”
“A servant of the God of Wisdom,” Lune had a polite smile on his face, “Just call me Lune.”
“He is Maurice’s teacher.” Duncan added casually from the sidelines – he knew Alice would understand this better.
“Oh! Mr. Morris’s teacher! That should be quite something,” Alice understood at once, and immediately afterwards ran gingerly to the little tea-stove, “I’ll make some tea then!”
Lune watched in amazement as the ghastly mannequin, labeled as “out of control” in the official files, worked around the room, and looked at the various furnishings in the captain’s room with some curiosity, but suddenly a strange sense of voyeurism caught his attention, and he subconsciously turned his eyes to see a dark wooden sculpture resting quietly on the nautical table in the center of the room. He subconsciously turned his eyes, but he saw a black wooden goat’s head on the center of the room’s sailing table – that weird “sculpture” was staring at him, as if the obsidian carved eyes were hollow and deep, reflecting a few points of weird shimmering light in the staring.
Loon seemed to have frozen, and he stood there fixedly, staring unblinkingly at the strange black “wooden sculpture”.
After an unknown period of time, the goat’s head finally moved – it suddenly spoke: “What are you looking at? Haven’t you ever seen artifacts before?”
Lune, however, as if suddenly awakened from a dream, let out a low exclamation of surprise the moment the goat head’s words fell, and then quickly turned his eyes away, and then he avoided continuing to stare at the “wooden sculpture” on the table while holding the table with his hands, and looked up at Duncan: “She saw it! She saw it!”
Duncan reacted instantly, “Silentis?”
“Yes, Silantis saw, and I …… don’t know how to describe the feeling, but just now, I felt Silantis’ ‘gaze’ suddenly focusing, and as she gazed through my eyes here, she …… I don’t understand what she’s conveying, confusion, fear, anger …… a myriad of confusing emotions ……”
He stopped abruptly and waved his hand in front of his eyes twice, as if trying to banish some invisible distraction from his mind, and Duncan noticed that his body had become a little more transparent in the last few seconds, but soon the elfin old man regained his “stability” – -he looked up, the chaos in his eyes fading to clarity, “She’s gone for now, but I don’t know how much longer I can hold it off -Captain Duncan, time is more limited than I expected, listen to me first.”
Lune seemed to have forcibly banished the part of his mind that belonged to Silantis by a force of will unimaginable to mortals, then he took a seat at the nautical table and spoke quickly-
“Silantis is calling out to the elves of the world, a call that is rooted in the depths of our souls, and in being affected by this force, I have touched a part of her mind.
“I saw …… that there was a doom, a destruction of all things, strongly imprinted in the depths of her memory, and that this doom led to a gradual loss of control …… Fear, anger, a sense of powerlessness over her own destruction, these things have long slumbered in the depths of her consciousness, and now that she is gradually awakening, so those slumbering fears and memories of the doomsday have awakened along with them, but that’s not the whole reason ……”
He paused, as if it took a great deal of effort to get his mind stable again, and only after a few seconds of rest did he continue to speak again, “In me her anger was also felt a strong emotion directed at us ‘elves’, it was very odd and confusing, and was accompanied by a strong tearing sensation …… I sensed a strong will to protect, and she ordered the elf to return to the World Tree in order to receive some kind of ‘shelter’, but at the same time she felt a great resistance to this ‘protection’, and Even …… horror, as if she is thinking of us as some kind of ……”
Lune paused longer this time, as if trying to find the right words to describe the intensity of the emotions he had “touched” from Silentis, and after opening his mouth several times, he finally spoke again: “Some kind of …… A monster that is not what it seems ……”.
He slowly turned his head and looked out of the window somewhere – the disappearing sea of Windward Harbor.
Theoretically, he couldn’t see Light Wind Harbor, much less the invisible threads floating on the sea.
However, he still looked fixedly at that place, as if there was some kind of invisible call ringing in his mind, making this old elf look towards the “World Tree” that only existed in the memory of his race.
“I can feel ……” Lune seemed to fall into a dream, spoke softly, “she is in this tearing feeling crazy, but …… but there is also ……
“It’s as if there’s something else, on the ‘other side’ of that apocalypse, as if there’s another being caught in madness …… shouting vaguely at me… …”
“With a clatter, the movement of something crashing to the ground came from the direction of the small tea oven.
Alice lifted her head and stared out the window in horror.
“Captain! Those wires are moving!”
