Chapter 590 – Meeting in the Shadows
Chapter 590 – Meeting in the Shadows
In the chaotic night intertwined with the “sunlight” and the creation of the world, Duncan and his group’s figures quickly passed through the silent and deserted streets, and finally stopped at an intersection that was completely covered and blocked by countless luxuriant plants.
Giant trees covered the sky, intertwined vines wrapped around the tall buildings and structures along the roadside, the root structure bulged from the pavement and snaked through the ground as if it were a furious vein, the entire neighborhood was dead silent, but occasionally one could hear the sound of birdsong or wind from the depths of those shadowy forests, the ethereal and unreal sound as if it had crossed the border between dream and reality.
“…… It really is still here.”
Standing at the intersection at the end of the block, Duncan looked gravely at the huge vines spreading out from the darkness and said as if to himself.
Alice stretched her neck and looked at the long ramp where the vines spread and grew over, and looked at it for half a day before she opened her mouth a little less surely, “Captain, this thing is looking …… isn t it a little bigger than last time? I remember before it didn’t seem to extend this far ……”
“You remember correctly,” Duncan exhaled and said seriously, “It’s expanded from last time, this vine …… is growing.”
Alice blinked her eyes for a long moment before she sighed, “Wow ……”
For his part, Duncan didn’t say another word, and was checking deep in his consciousness to make sure Maurice and the others were okay – especially on Vanna’s side – before taking any further action.
With the exception of himself and the two dolls, everyone was now arriving on the other side of the Dream of the Nameless One just as they had last time, and everyone’s entry drop was not too different from before, in which the Dream of the Nameless One seemed to show some sort of troubling …… “continuity “.
And of all of them, Vanna’s side faced the most confusing situation.
Ms. Inquisitor had once again arrived in the barren desert, and this time, she had encountered a giant who called himself a “god”.
Vanna is now trekking with the giant through a sea of sand, and from what we have heard so far, the giant is acting friendly and telling Vanna many things about the desert.
However, what was being told did not correspond at all to the old legends that Duncan knew of and that had been passed down in the world!
What happened to the desert? What was the origin of the giant who called himself a god? What did the lost ages mentioned by the other man have to do with the ancient heritage of the elves? Why did such a strange place appear in the depths of the Dream of the Nameless?
Duncan only felt more and more confused.
Now, he can only hope that Vanna’s side can get some further information from the sea of sand and the mysterious giant’s mouth, or …… others can find some clues related to the “desert” in the endless forest.
Maintaining the connection with the others in the depths of his consciousness, Duncan exhaled deeply and refocused his attention on the matter at hand.
The reappearance of the giant vine in the real world was good news for him – he had feared that his last “scare” had caused the Dream of the Nameless One to change in some unforeseen way, causing the vine to disappear or relocate, which would make his investigation very difficult. This will make it difficult to continue his investigation, but now it seems …… that at least this clue is not broken.
Of course, the situation at this moment also made him have to start worrying about another thing:
This vine did not disappear …… but its size instead expanded.
This thing shouldn’t just keep growing like this until it wraps around the entire city, right?
After worrying for no reason, Deng fixed his mind, then stepped forward and slowly placed his hand on the end of the vine.
“Keep an eye on the movements around you, and if there are any drastic changes, wake me up immediately.” He turned back to the two figures behind himself.
“Hey!” Alice immediately nodded and said.
Lunie also bent slightly and responded respectfully, “Yes, old master.”
Duncan nodded slightly, then caused his intention to gradually calm down, cautiously manipulating the power of the flames, letting his senses spread and penetrate with the wisps of flowing spiritual body fire, once again establishing a connection with the vine.
Due to the experience of the last time, this time he was more careful in his maneuvering than before, in order to prevent disturbing the “Silentis” as he did last time.
A few moments later, Duncan opened his eyes in the darkness.
Once again, the infinite mists appeared in his vision.
Following his intuition, Duncan looked into the deepest part of the mists.
A hazy, massive silhouette gradually emerged under his gaze, the boundless mist floating, the light in the mist outlining the familiar silhouette of the Lost Country – the awe-inspiring great ship floating in the void like a silent ghost, as if …… was extending a wordless invitation to Duncan.
Duncan gladly answered the invitation. He coalesced his spiritual incarnation in the darkness, and then, while carefully controlling the flow of flames around him, flew towards the Lost Country in the depths of the mists and landed silently on its deck.
As it had been the last time he had seen it, the ship was still empty, with wisps of mist floating on the silent, unoccupied decks, and the familiar amenities of the ship appeared shadowed in the fog.
This time, Duncan did not head directly to the captain’s cabin at the stern of the ship, but stepped in another direction after looking around.
He walked through the mist that hung around the deck, his footsteps echoing in the empty, dead silence as he crossed the cables and debris that were piled up and coiled around the deck, and headed for the entrance to the ship’s hold.
The cables and assorted things piled up on the deck were unresponsive to Duncan’s approach – they all simply piled silently in place, like the most common of dead things.
And so, Duncan noticed another difference between the strange atmosphere of this Lost Country ship and the Lost Country ship he knew so well:
In the “normal Lost Country”, these things on the deck will move when he approaches, either greeting the captain attentively or making all kinds of strange noises to try to attract the captain’s attention, but here …… although the two ships are almost identical in every way, this one has the same atmosphere. Although the two ships were almost identical, everything on this ship was “dead”.
Duncan frowned slightly, his eyes sweeping over the silent cables, buckets and hooks as he walked between them, then suddenly stopped in his tracks.
His eyes fell on a mop placed against the wall.
After a few moments, he realized what the sudden “familiarity” was all about: the mop had been placed there by Alice when she returned to the ship!
Not only did this strange ship look exactly like the “real” Lost Country in reality, but it also corresponded to the changes on the real Lost Country in real time?
Many speculations appeared in his mind, Duncan felt that he seemed to have vaguely grasped a certain “essence” of this strange Lost Country ship, and just at that moment, there was a sudden and subtle sound from a certain corner that instantly attracted his attention.
In this ghost ship where everything was quiet, that subtle sound like a whisper sounded so sudden.
Duncan instantly locked onto the direction from which the sound came and took a step towards it.
He stopped in front of a window.
There was a blurry mass of shadow or fog that seemed to be mixed with black soot was floating on the glass surface of the window and seemed to be trying to coalesce and take shape.
Duncan stared at the shadow that was gathering and falling apart for a few seconds before suddenly reacting and speaking in a low voice, “Agatha?”
As his words fell, the ever-shifting mass of shadows that had been gathering and shifting abruptly converged and in a matter of seconds transformed into a clear image on the window – Agatha’s figure floating in the glass.
“Ah, you’ve finally noticed me,” Agatha on the surface of the glass let out a long breath just as it took shape, “I’ve been calling out from the crevices of the shadows to try and get your attention, but I couldn’t really find a suitable mirror nearby… …”
“Why are you here?” Duncan looked at the person in the mirror in surprise, then something occurred to him, “Wait, did you come through the Lost Country’s ……”
“Yes, I stayed in the Lost Country’s reflection after nightfall, it may seem like a bit of a risk, but I succeeded,” Agatha nodded, “As the reflection shifted, I came here and met up with you, and it looks like my guess was correct: at nightfall, the Lost Country’s disappearing The ‘shadow’ becomes the ‘other Lost Country ship’ that you see here – and although the principle is still unclear, we have finally found the link between the two Lost Country ships. ”
Duncan’s brow grew furrowed as he listened to the other man but didn’t open his mouth to respond for a moment, which made Agatha a little uneasy, “…… Shouldn’t I be trespassing like this?”
“It’s true that you should have consulted with me ahead of time, but that’s not what I’m considering right now,” Duncan waved his hand, “You stayed on the side of the ‘Reflections’, so did you observe exactly how the transformation process took place? Was there any noticeable …… ‘movement’ in the Lost Country at the time?”
Agatha, however, shook her head, “There was no process.”
“No process?”
“All changes happen instantly, there is no process,” Agatha reconfirmed, “One second, I was staying in the Lost Country’s reflection, watching and waiting for all possible changes in the mirror world, and the next instant, the ‘atmosphere’ in the mirror world ‘ changed. I could feel …… the shadow of the Lost Country ship turn into something I didn’t recognize, my jumps between mirrors were suppressed, and I could no longer perceive the boundaries between the Spirit World and the real world, nor could I return to those normal mirrors in the real world, it was as if… . the entire world has become abnormally sticky and is gradually solidifying ……”
Duncan listened attentively to Agatha’s description, then slowly turned his head in the direction of the aft deck.
That was the location of the captain’s cabin, where the “other goat’s head” was staying.
“Can you move freely now?” Duncan asked suddenly.
“It seems to be unaffected,” Agatha said immediately, a hint of incredulity in her tone, “The odd feeling of oppression magically disappeared after you became aware of my presence.”
“Very well,” Duncan nodded, “then come along – we’ll go and meet the ‘First Mate’ who’s not quite in the right state. ”
