Chapter 579 – Agatha’s Information
Chapter 579 – Agatha’s Intelligence
Duncan knew Goathead didn’t have to lie to itself-or if it did, it didn’t have to use such poor acting skills.
That one sentence, the only memory the “first mate” had brought with him from subspace – it really didn’t seem to know what had happened, or the consequences of that sentence.
Duncan rested his hands on the desktop and resumed his seat in the reclining chair behind the nautical table, and he looked into the goathead’s eyes attentively, as if he were trying to discern more secrets from those obsidian-carved eyes, “So, a long, long time ago, there were people who were very important to you, and you tried desperately to remember them, and at that point in time you knew that sooner or later, you were going to forget many things, so ‘remember them’ became a strong thought …… The thought was so strong, but it still didn’t stop things from happening – by now, you’ve only remember that.”
“Maybe …… that’s true,” Goathead said with a hint of uncertainty in his tone, “but I don’t regret it, I’m just a little confused sometimes… …”
It muttered, then suddenly stopped and looked up at Duncan, “Captain, what the hell is going on? What in the world could it be that would still have something to do with me?”
Duncan sat back in his reclining chair, curling his fingers in remembrance and tapping lightly on the table in front of him, the psychic flames turning into watery ripples that slowly rippled away as he tapped.
“…… The influence of the Dream of the Nameless One expanded and permeated into the real world last night, and I touched a section of the ‘roots’ that extended from that dream into the real world, and if the guess is right …… I came into contact with one of the roots of the world in the original beliefs of the elves, Silantis.”
There was an instantaneous crunch from the underside of the goathead’s neck, and his entire head stilled on the pedestal.
Duncan glanced at it and spoke faintly, “You crunched early.”
“Ah …… ah?”
“After touching Silantis, I entered a dimension that is neither dream nor reality, another Lost Country sails in that dimension, and on that ‘Lost Country’ there is a you as well.”
Goathead’s neck crunched again at that.
Duncan didn’t care about the evil movement from the evil “first mate”, he calmly recounted his experience last night, especially the change of the “Lost Countryman’s Gate” on the ghost ship with the strange atmosphere, and the familiar but strange “Goathead”. The familiar but strange “goat’s head” showed a strange reaction.
In the course of his narration, he was always observing the demeanor of the goathead on the other side of the room.
The reaction of the other party was not suspicious – besides being shocked, he was still shocked, and even if he had a hard wooden face, his shock was so obvious that it could be seen at a glance.
“It looks like you’re surprised,” Duncan said as he finally finished telling the whole story, nodding to the first mate at the table, “Now you know why I’m so serious, don’t you?”
“I …… yes, now I fully understand your reaction,” Goathead spoke hesitantly, “but I don’t know …… I don’t remember either ……”
“I should have mentioned to you that I saw a Lost Country ship in subspace as well, a ship that was dilapidated, like the shadow of the Lost Country reflected after even longer years of decay and rot, but the oddity of that ship was simply itself, there was no you on that ship,” Duncan said slowly. “And now I have seen a third Lost Country, sailing in darkness and fog, with another you on it – what of the future? Will there be a fourth ship, a fifth? After all, don’t you have the slightest clue as to what state this ship is in right now?”
The goat-head hesitated, and was silent for a long time, as if trying to find a “safe” way to respond to the topic, before it finally spoke up, “I don’t know if you’ll ever meet a fourth or fifth Lost Country, and I don’t know how much the ship will split up, I don’t know how many weird ‘states’ this ship will take on, but there is one thing that might help you think …… about this ship, and it hasn’t always looked like this.”
“Not always this shape?” Duncan frowned, “I’m guessing …… you’re not referring to the ‘changes’ caused by the Lost Country’s crash into subspace?”
“No, it was a much greater and more complete change than that,” Goathead shook his head slowly, “In my confused and shattered memories, it used to take on many faces – huge hunks of iron, rising and shrinking and writhing flesh and blood, dark and icy of rock, abstract and ghastly shadows, and in the deepest recesses of subspace it would be a different picture at any moment, a state that lasted ……”
Goathead stopped abruptly.
Duncan heard a low creaking sound and a disturbing dull echo from the depths of the cabin, the floorboards under his feet were also making a slight tremor, and a nervous “feeling” gradually filled the ship, as if …… the whole ship was trembling and destabilizing. The ship is shaking and losing stability.
“That’s all there is to it, I can imagine the state you describe.” Duncan said softly.
Goathead nodded cautiously.
The tension and trembling that permeated the entire ship gradually ceased, and the ship regained its stability in the reality dimension once more.
Duncan, for his part, frowned in thought – the
It seemed that the ship was about to collapse into something else because of the goathead’s “description”, but under his own “captain’s” watchful eye, it finally returned to its stable holding state. The “captain” himself was watching, but it finally returned to a stable state of shelter.
Then, the changes that happened to the Lost Country in just a few seconds, was it revealing to him some kind of “essence” of this ship? Or …… something more?
After a period of quiet contemplation, Duncan shook his head and returned his gaze to the goat’s head, “What do you think about the ‘other you’ on that ship?”
“I’m sorry, Captain, I don’t know.”
Goathead muttered in frustration, those seemed to be the most it had said in just a moment, other than “I don’t remember.” Duncan wasn’t surprised by the answer, but followed it up with another question, “Do you dream?”
“Dream?” The goat’s head froze momentarily, but soon it shook its head, this time answering extraordinarily smoothly, “I don’t dream – your loyal First Mate is ever vigilant, after all, this ship depends on me to keep a watchful eye on it at all times …… “
Duncan didn’t care for the second half of the other man’s boast, after hearing Goathead’s reply he simply muttered softly and thoughtfully, “Don’t dream ……”
Goathead spoke a bit uneasily, “Captain ……”
Duncan gave it a look, “Speak.”
Goathead looked a bit squirmy and hesitated before speaking, “You mentioned earlier that on that ship with the weird atmosphere of the Lost Country, the door to the captain’s cabin said ‘May He wander in dreams’ and that the ‘I’ in that captain’s cabin ‘ also mentioned the name Silentis to you, are you suspecting ……”
“Aye.” Duncan nodded calmly without waiting for the other man to finish.
The goat’s head didn’t know what to take after that for a moment.
“But that’s all I can suspect, unless one day you suddenly get your memories back and tell me yourself that you have a name – and that name is ‘Sasloca’. ”
Silence fell for a moment in the captain’s cabin.
After an unknown amount of time, Goathead muttered to break the silence, “Most of the old legends of the elves are grotesque and contradictory, and can’t really be taken as true ……”
“But the more grotesque and contradictory the old legends are, the more worthwhile it is to look deeper into them when they suddenly connect with certain clues in the real world,” Duncan said calmly and seriously, “In the end, you yourself don’t know your own past, do you? ”
“Be that as it may, this …… is too bizarre,” muttered Goathead, “I wouldn’t want to be associated with this level of ancient lore, and really, when you look at me in my current state, I’m just a piece of sculpture on a ship ……”
Duncan said nothing to this, he just shook his head and sighed, he then got up from the sailing table and slowly made his way over to the window, looking out at the side of the ship bathed in sunlight and mist, and the undulating sea in the distance.
A soft, tapping sound on the glass suddenly reached his ears.
Duncan immediately looked in the direction from which the sound had come.
Agatha’s illusory figure silently floated up to the window and raised her hand to point in a certain direction.
Duncan frowned slightly, followed by a glance back at Goathead, who was still muttering on the edge of the sailing table.
After a slight pause, he took a step over, “Don’t think about it so much for now, in any case, right now your first duty is to be first mate of the Lost Country – look after the ship for me, and leave the rest of it, to me.”
Goat-head instantly woke up with a jolt of excitement, and immediately afterward, he looked at the captain who was looking down at himself with some surprise, and froze for a moment before reacting in a panic, “Ah, ah, yes, captain, I …… understand.”
“Well,” Duncan nodded slightly before striding towards the door to the room deeper in the captain’s cabin, “I’m going to go back to my room for a while to rest and organize my thoughts in the meantime.”
Goathead’s voice immediately came from behind him, “Aye, Captain!”
Duncan didn’t turn around, he waved his hand and walked into his captain’s chambers, casually closing the door behind him but instead of actually resting, he went in front of the mirror in the corner of the room.
After confirming the movement outside the door, Duncan stepped forward and curled his fingers to tap on the mirror.
Shadows and smoke rose in the mirror, and Agatha’s silhouette appeared – the former Gatekeeper who now inhabited the mirrors of the Lost Country nodded her greeting to Duncan.
“You have something to say to me, and you’re going to say it here – to avoid the ‘First Mate’?” Duncan’s expression was serious, “What’s the situation?”
“I overheard your conversation with the First Mate, Captain, and I have a situation here that I need to bring to your attention,” Agatha nodded, with a cautious look on her face, “Last night, the Lost Country was not without incident – its ‘Shadow’ disappeared for a time.”
