Chapter 399: Big Business
Chapter 399 – Big Business
In October, when the land northwest of Aldo was tinted with a golden color, Lakeheart Town welcomed a few unexpected guests – Quiller Foster, and his older brother, Gaius Foster.
“Welcome, gentlemen from Horn Bay!”
Paul hosted them at a banquet in the lord’s mansion, and called out to Myron for company.
Of Quiller’s older brother, he had only heard of him before, and by Quiller’s own account, Gaius was far more accomplished than his younger brother, and the family business was almost exclusively run by his brother, which allowed their father to devote himself fully to politics.
“What brings you to us sometime?”
In a previous exchange of letters, Paul had learned that Quiller had been placed in the Nisborough Guard under his father’s arrangement and couldn’t run around the world uninhibited anymore.
Quiller smiled broadly and said, “Naturally, it’s because I miss my oldest brother so much.”
Paul laughed at this and assumed he was joking.
The Foster family’s business in the Northwest Bay was all handled by Supervisor Christopher, and this time, he even sent the family’s youngest master over, so there was definitely something big going on.
Gaius Foster took advantage of the time when his younger brother was talking to Paul, and carefully sized up the two lords in front of him, especially Earl Paul Greiman.
Starting from the distant view of Port Fullan from the sea all the way to Lake Town, this journey had already given him too many surprises.
Before this, he had always thought that the so-called Northwest Bay was just a remote and remote place in the Kingdom of Aldo, maybe there had been some strange goods produced recently, but there were still valuable furs and medicinal herbs in the sparsely populated deep mountains and old forests. How could a place that hadn’t been heard of much before prosper overnight.
But along the way, the busy cargo ships in the harbor, the wharf under expansion, the endless merchants and travelers, the good law and order, as well as the wide and solid roads between the cities had greatly overturned his previous impression of this land.
It may be far from what he considered “prosperous”, but it was definitely vibrant. This was something he had never experienced in his hometown, as Jiaoban had already experienced hundreds of years of prosperity, and even if it were to develop again, it would still be the same, and he would never experience that kind of prosperity.
What surprised him about this banquet was that Count Gleiman had even brought along his own ally, Count Myron Garnard. In accordance with the previously obtained information he had made a presumption: Garnard family territory in a certain extent has been annexed by the Gladman family, Myron Garnard although still hangs the name of the lord, but is just a puppet.
But now it seems that things are not so, if Myron Garnard is really a puppet, then Paul should not be so active to let him contact with himself as an outsider, and look at Myron laughing and joking, in front of Paul’s appearance without restraint, but also not the slightest feeling of being coerced.
Perhaps it was really as his own brother had said, the two were united by the same ambition.
Paul and Quiller’s climb to the end, Gaius smiled slightly and said in fluent Aldo:
“Count Greiman, although a long time has passed, allow me to thank you again for saving my brother’s life.”
“Haha, you are welcome. Does Mr. Gaius personally come to the Northwest Bay this time for something important?”
Being wishy-washy was not Paul’s specialty, so he asked straight to the point.
Gaius was silent for a long time, seemingly brewing words, and finally said softly, “I am indeed carrying a mission.”
Seeing Quiller on the side also showing a serious expression, Paul came to be interested and opened his eyes wide to listen carefully.
“Uh ……”
Gaius glanced at the accompanying Myron.
Paul could see his concern and explained, “Please don’t worry, just be straightforward.”
Only then did Gaius say, “As far as we know, the ‘Northwest Industry’ under the leadership of Lord Earl played a great role in the civil war in Aldo. That’s why I came here this time to make an on-site visit, I wonder if I can make it easier.”
Paul looked at Myron, and the two of them smiled heartily, it looked like the reputation of Northwest Industry had already been played out. Paul responded, “Convenience can naturally be given, but what is Mr. Gaius’ purpose? You know, our Northwest Industry’s main product is …… ordnance!”
Gaiyus stood up and said, “I won’t hide it, this time I came to the Northwest Bay, I represent the entire Horned Bay Alliance, it is for the purchase of ordnance.”
“Huh?” Paul was shocked, not expecting this.
“The alliance commissioned me to come because they wish to reach a long term cooperation with Lord Earl. We will likely need a large amount of ordnance in the future …… if it’s unfortunate …… ” Gaius looked a bit hesitant, “including all kinds of weapons, defenses, and so on. ”
He then added, “But please rest assured that our purchase of ordnance is in no way directed at the Aldo side.”
Big business!
Paul was secretly excited in his heart, was the Horned Bay Alliance about to start a war?
“Just, Earl Lord …… can your side keep our secret?”
Paul patted his chest and assured, “Please put your mind at ease, keeping our clients’ secrets is one of the tenets of our service.”
Gaius added, “Then I also need to confirm whether you have enough production capacity to fulfill our needs.”
“I don’t know the demand on the alliance side?”
“At least 10,000 sets of infantry armor, 10,000 longswords, 30,000 spearheads, and 50,000 bows and arrows!”
This this this …… Paul and Myron were greatly shocked! If they ate it all, this was a big business of millions of silver coins.
“This is just the initial demand, considering the wear and tear and replacement once the battle occurs, we will also add more.”
“Haha!” Paul tried to keep himself from drooling with joy. “So, what does your side require for delivery?”
“Within a year and a half!”
“No problem!” Paul patted his chest, “Northwest Industries has more than 50 large and small workshops and factories under its name, a large number of skilled craftsmen, and an ample supply of raw materials, so we can definitely meet your needs. Not to mention that because of the previous rebellion in the south, we still have a lot of supplies left in reserve.”
Hearing Paul’s introduction, Gaius slightly put his heart down and said, “But I still wish to see your production site with my own eyes.”
Paul nodded, “Tell you what, tomorrow I’ll take you to a workshop near the town of Lakeheart, where there’s a sight you’d like to see.”
“For that I am very grateful!” Gaius lifted his glass and toasted Paul, “I sincerely hope we can reach this cooperation.”
Paul immediately brought his glass to return the toast, and the two of them clinked their glasses with a crisp clink, “That’s what I’m hoping for as well.”
After finishing off his glass, Paul asked again, “Uh …… if it’s convenient, can you reveal what threat the alliance is feeling?”
A look of difficulty appeared on both of the Foster brothers’ faces.
“Lord Earl, please forgive us for our rudeness. There are some things that are really inconvenient to say.”
“Haha, let’s just talk about business then.”
Paul smiled broadly, in fact, combined with the intelligence Cecil gave about Horned Bay, he could roughly guess what the top brass of Fort Ness were preparing for.
