Chapter 326: Asphyxiation

Chapter 326 Choking
Saul slowly moved his eyes away, his gaze finally landing in the center of the first floor hall.

“Is that the one?”

Xander turned around, his entire body frozen in place.

“Yes, it’s my suitcase, but …… why, I just obviously came from there.”

He said, walking quickly towards the case, running his hands up and down the length of it, eventually even cradling the whole thing in his arms.

Saul was also a little puzzled.

This chest, when he came in, was definitely not in that place!

And just now, after he did some checking, he neither found any mechanism on the ground that could hide anything, nor any spiritual presence.

Then how on earth did that chest suddenly appear?
Was the chest special, or was there an abnormality in this house that Saul hadn’t discovered?

Thinking about the fact that an apprentice who was expelled from the Sorcerer’s Tower had once lived here, coupled with the fact that an apprentice who was 30 years old and hadn’t reached the third level was prone to anomalies, Saul was more inclined to the fact that there was a problem with this house.

However, when he once again ran his meditation and looked over, the house was still clean.

What wasn’t clean instead was the half-man-high rattan box.

An ominous gray mist escaped from it and finally mingled with the arm around Xander’s neck.

But to Saul’s surprise, those gray mists intentionally avoided Xander’s body and just surrounded him.

It seemed to be afraid of hurting him.

Determining that the gray mist was a kind of corpse’s resentment, Saul raised his eyebrows, “It doesn’t seem like it’s killing and hiding corpses as I thought at first.”

He had originally wanted to sign an agreement with Xander and then let him leave with this dangerous cane box.

While the other man might be a psychopathic murderer who carried around corpses, Saul wasn’t going to mind his own business, and that arm would probably avenge itself personally.

But now it seemed that there was something else going on with the corpse’s death.

A man who was down and out, carrying a body around. When he loses the body, he goes back to the dreaded “haunted house” several times to get it back.

A ghostly spirit that haunts the man in front of him, but is careful not to harm him with its breath.

What was Xander’s relationship to the body in the box – or the owner of the arm around his neck?
Saul was suddenly a little interested.

He held onto the handrail of the stairs as he slowly made his way down, “What was your relationship to the man in the box?”

Xander, who was originally holding the box intimately, stiffened, and he looked back at Saul, who had already, stepped in front of him, and opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, he lowered his head in discouragement.

“Sure enough, you saw it.”

He tremblingly reached out his hand and placed it on the belt that the wicker crate had wrapped layer after layer around and slowly unwrapped it.

Then, gently setting the case down again, he reached out and plucked at the brass clasp.

He took a deep breath and jerked open the top lid of the crate.

Saul looked calmly into the case.

Not surprisingly, it was a female corpse.

She looked to be twelve or thirteen years old, lying on her side in the box with her hands on her knees, her face wasn’t considered too pretty, and if she was alive she should be able to call it cute.

She was wearing a light pink dress that was a bit yellowed and discolored, and there was a small gold hairpin on her head.

It looked like a corpse that had just died.

The only special thing was that there wasn’t a single wound on her body, nor was there the slightest trace of decay.

Saul’s gaze fell on the golden hairpin.

This hair card was as brand new as its owner, without the slightest trace of age corrosion.

“It should be this voodoo prop that maintains her body from decaying.”

Saul squatted down to examine it once more, and realized that the pattern on the hair card was indeed a kind of sorcery symbol, only it was a sorcery script that he had never seen before. Seeing that Saul had no intention of touching the female corpse, Xander’s tense shoulders slowly relaxed.

He began to slowly tell the story of himself and the female corpse.

In fact, the story was very simple and commonplace.

In order to prevent his sister from being sold to an old man as a plaything by his indebted stepmother, Xander, as the older brother, escaped with his sister in the night. However that old man is a rich and powerful man, and even worships a Lord Witch.

For some reason, he was in hot pursuit of Xander and his sister. He even paid money and spent a lot of manpower to track them down.

And since young men and women are easily questioned when they walk on the road, Xander bought this big cane box on purpose and let his sister hide in it.

By this stupid way, they escaped the search.

Everything was going well until he came here in a boat from the eastern continent across the bay to Bluewater Bay, the mouth of the sea.

As he got off the boat, there were some crashing noises coming from the wicker box. But because his sister had skipped out on the boat, he looked at the talking and laughing sailors around him and didn’t dare to move, but just patted the crate to quiet his sister.

And the crate was immediately quiet.

Xander just assumed that the movement just now was probably just his sister sitting somewhere uncomfortably and adjusting her position.

But who expected when he quickly got off the boat, found a secluded and uninhabited place, opened the box, but found his sister curled up inside, motionless, no heartbeat breathing …… body has been stiff.

Despite the fact that many years have passed, said here, Xander still shed a line of tears.

This tears are very quiet, silent along the corner of the eye drops, rolled through the vicissitudes of the years of skin, fell to his shirt that has faded yellow open collar.

Xander skillfully wiped away the tears and then wiped his hands dry on his pants before carefully closing the case.

He would reach down and carefully straighten the skirt and hair of the female body to keep them from getting caught in the case.

“I’m sorry to make you laugh my lord. This chest is not worth much, but it hides my most valuable treasures.”

He even smiled at Sol.

Despite Xander’s efforts to remain calm, Saul could still feel the great sadness that had been suppressed for so long from him.

Seeing that Saul didn’t look impatient, Xander couldn’t help but pour out some more of his heart.

“Later on, I often wondered if I hadn’t thought about saving that little money for the boat ticket and immediately opened the chest to check on my sister’s condition, would she not have died?”

“I always thought that the rattan box is more breathable, but I did not think …… that it might be a little hot that day, a little too many people, crowding around me, making her uncomfortable. She wanted to change her position to get some air, but because of my instructions, obediently endure ……”

Saul looked at the rattan box that was once again heavily wrapped on, “Then why do you still put her in the box?”

“Meadowlark likes …… Oh, Meadowlark is my sister, her name is Miska, that’s what my mother and I have always called her. She doesn’t want to leave the crate, and she cries once I have to take her out.”

“She cries?”

“Yes my lord, I am not lying.”

Saul leaned on his chin, “Then pick her up and let me see.”

“This ……” Xander showed a visible hint of reluctance, but he struggled for a moment before reaching down and opening the case.

He was afraid that if he didn’t do it, this Lord Wizard would have to do it himself.

Just as Xander had said, a droplet of water soaked out of the girl’s tightly closed eyes as she gently lifted her sister’s head.

When Xander lifted the girl’s shoulders again, the tears rolled down like broken beads.

“My Lord?” Xander looked begrudgingly at Saul, apparently unable to bear the thought of lifting his sister’s body again.

“Alright, I see, you put her back.” Saul didn’t force Xander anymore, but said immediately after Xander put her sister down, “Your sister didn’t die of suffocation, she was killed by an evil spirit.”
