Chapter 325 The Box

Chapter 325 The Box
Saul didn’t bother Xander and listened to the other man quietly the entire time.

When Xander finished the last word, Saul stood up from his seat.

“In that case, let’s go over there now.”

“Huh?” Xander froze.

“My lord?” The squire rushed forward, he originally wanted to make a dissuasive remark, but immediately changed his mind when he saw Saul’s expression, “Please let us accompany you there. If you have an eye on that house, we can help you clean it up.”

“No need.” Saul refused the squire’s offer to follow him.

Judging from Xander’s state of mind and the abnormalities in his body, this fellow was indeed in trouble.

The others didn’t see it, and it was likely that the grudge spirits had already haunted Xander, so they couldn’t care about the others.

There were some Grievous Spirits that were more specialized in this aspect of harming people, and would generally not move their targets until the object they were currently haunting was dead.

And when they had killed enough people and their soul power was replenished, along with further contamination, they could become evil spirits.

This is probably the lifelong pursuit of many irrational spirits.

There must be quite a lot of soul fragments contained in a sentient grudge spirit, and it just so happened that Saul had been consuming a bit too much lately, so he went over to replenish his stock.

Of course, what was more important was the house that Xander had mentioned, which happened to meet all of Saul’s requirements.

Saul used the academy’s carriage to bring Xander along to the lakeside lodge.

This place was a bit closer to the Sorcerer’s Tower than the outpost town, and it was hard to find because it was hidden in the mountains and forests. It was also unknown who would build a house in such a place in the first place.

The houses were made from local materials, mostly wooden structures, but Saul found stones that had been molded by sorcery in some corners.

“It looks like whoever originally built this house was also a sorcerer. Maybe it was an apprentice wizard who wanted to live in seclusion away from the town.”

Saul came to the door and waited for Xander to shakily climb down from the wagon.

The mushroom wagon driver drove fast, and was best at shortening what had been a half-day journey to two hours.

Xander, who had never ridden in a life-and-death carriage before, turned white with fear, but because a sorcerer lord was sitting across from him, he stiffly endured not screaming out in shock even once.

But as soon as he got off the carriage, Xander, who was already a bit wilted, immediately straightened his body and walked off the carriage in a noble manner.

In fact, the texture of the clothes he wore was not bad, just a bit old. He didn’t have any servants around him, and he didn’t even have his own carriage despite living so far away. Much like those nobles who had been down and out for years.

“This is the place, my lord.” Xander stepped forward to help Saul open the door, but saw the lock on the gate open automatically.

He was startled and just as he was about to jump up and shout that there was a ghost, he saw that Saul had already strode inside.

It was then that Xander remembered that rumor had it that the Sorcerer Lord did indeed not need a key to open the door.

He looked at the open door of the room in front of him, and the gloomy hall, and hesitated a little.

The sunlight hit the old wooden floor through the doorway of the room, and the light and the gloom formed a not-so-clear borderline.

It was like the distance between life and death.

Xander obviously wasn’t too keen on entering the haunted house, the small wizard’s figure before him about to blend into the darkness.

Following a wizard along to the haunted house did not make Xander feel grounded. On the contrary, when the other party left the outpost in the carriage, the “popularity” of his body was rapidly disappearing.

Xander’s face turned pale, half frightened by the speed of the carriage, and half frightened by the aura of the sorcerer in front of him.

In fact, he could have waited for Saul to finish checking the room, and after he thought there was no problem, he came out to sign the housing transfer and rental agreement with him.

But Xander’s eyes rolled, and not knowing what came to mind, he still gathered his courage and stepped inside.

And at this time Saul had already finished strolling through the first floor and walked up to the second floor.

For a long time no one to maintain and take care of the stairs have been a little damp, walking up will “creak” sound.

Saul strolled around the first floor, and did not see any soul fragments or spirits. Indeed, as the valet of the stagecoach house said, it had been cleaned inside and out. But according to what Xander had described, the spiteful spirits here had all been able to affect actual objects, that should have already taken shape and had some consciousness. Ordinary people could only deal with some contaminated soul fragments, but the more powerful spirits would need to use the means of a sorcerer.

With the current cleanliness of the cabin, it was obvious that it could not reach the point of being haunted.

Saul stepped onto the second floor, when he heard someone walking on the first floor.

“Did Xander just come in?” He glanced sideways and downward to see a tiptoeing, careful figure, smiled softly, and continued to examine the room.

The second floor was separated into three rooms, two small and one large.

The beds, however, were made in the smallest one. Each room only had a small air window, as if the people who built the houses in the first place preferred darkness and loathed sunlight.

The largest room was empty, with only a closet with half a door broken.

But when Saul crouched down to check it out, he found many more signs of old age on the floor.

“There should have been many cabinets and tables …… placed here at one time just like the labs of the mentors.”

Saul stood up, and with a gentle wave of his hands, the dust that had accumulated for several days was swept up and sent out of the room through the air window.

As the room became clean, the signs that furniture had once been placed on the floor became more obvious.

“Seeing that this layout resembles Mentor Kaz’s laboratory, the person who once built this house was indeed some kind of sorcerer apprentice.”

Saul was satisfied, and he even planned to rearrange the laboratory again according to the layout on the floor.

“It’s just that I don’t know if the owner of this house in the first place was a temporary landing place like me who was prepared to build outside the tower, or an apprentice who could only live here after being expelled from the Sorcerer’s Tower.”

Just now, Saul’s sorcery pushed open the air window of the room, and some air from outside rushed in.

The damp scent of the fibers was mixed with the chirping of unknown insects and birds, and there was a sense of idyllic idleness.

Saul walked over to the air window and looked out, unexpectedly realizing that from this angle he could actually see the spire of the wizard’s tower.

“Good, basically it can be identified as the apprentice who was expelled from the tower.”

After the tour, Saul walked out of the room and descended down the old staircase.

The sound quickly startled Xander in the hall, and he rushed to the stairway, tilting his head and trying to squeeze out a smile.

Saul noticed that he had just run from a room.

The man still seemed to be looking for his luggage. Obviously afraid of ghosts, yet he still had to come in to find his luggage.

It seemed like there was something important to him inside the luggage.

“My lord, have you seen a ghost?” Xander asked warily.

“No, every room was clean.” Saul shook his head.

“But, but my lord, I really did meet a ghost here, I wouldn’t dare lie to you.” Xander said a little anxiously.

“I know.” Saul’s eyes fell to Xander’s neck.

The gray rotting arm was still wrapped around the other man’s neck.

If the association unfolded, the owner of that arm was probably trying to strangle Xander from behind.

“Then, then maybe the ghosts all fled when they saw my lord.” Xander’s eyes moved from side to side at that moment, “My lord, did you see a huge wicker box upstairs?”

Xander gestured with his hand.

According to his description, that cane box was not small.

It felt like it could fit a person.
