Chapter 302 – Stepping onto the Ghost Ship
Chapter 302: Stepping onto the Ghost Ship
A ship just “rose” up from the sea in a shocking manner and appeared in front of Vanna and Nina.
The waves on the surface of the sea have not yet stopped, layers and layers of turbulence in the rusty ship as the center of the spread around, seawater continues to fall from its rusty chimneys and deck buildings, making a loud and noisy sound, it is slightly swaying between the waves, tilted sunlight sprinkled on its deck as if pervading a kind of unreal color.
Dumbfounded, it took several seconds for Nina to react, and she suddenly exclaimed, “Ah! A ship! A ship! A ship came out of nowhere!”
Immediately afterward she then suddenly turned to Vanna and spoke rapidly, “I’m going to tell Uncle Duncan!”
Before the words were out of her mouth, the girl had turned and ran like a gust of wind across the deck toward the stern.
Vanna, however, was still staring deathly at the strange vessel that had suddenly emerged from the waters, observing the signs of decay and obsolescence, and every ounce of detail on the hull.
She noticed a line of large letters on the side of the bow of the ship – the letters were covered in heavy rust marks and dirt, making them very difficult to recognize, but she barely managed to read them out:
“The Obsidian.”
The sudden appearance of the mysterious ship on the surface was a big enough commotion that Nina and Vanna were certainly not the only ones who noticed it, but in a matter of moments, everyone else who was resting in their cabins had gathered on the deck as well, including Maurice, Shirley, Dog, and Alice, who, amazed and bewildered, had come near the bow of the ship to look out over the strange vessel that wasn’t too far away and speculate on its origins, and soon enough Duncan had followed Nina to the the deck at the bow of the ship.
“Mr. Duncan,” Vanna spoke immediately after seeing Duncan, “there is no sign of living people on that ship, it may be a …… ghost ship.”
When he said the word “ghost ship”, the expression on the young judge’s face was a bit strange.
“Peer ah,” Duncan casually returned a sentence, then looked up to observe that looks only half the size of the Lost Country “ghost ship”, he first noticed the ship on the upper deck of the chimney structure, “looks to be a steamer! …… Can you guess the approximate year and origin?”
“No need to speculate,” Maurice’s voice suddenly sounded from the side, the old scholar’s eyes gazed out over the distant sea with a hint of complexity in his eyes, “I saw its name – Obsidian, a steamship, sunk six years ago in the Frost Outer Sea,” he said. ago sunk in the Frost Outer Sea.”
“Huh?” Shirley, who was stretching her neck next to her, instantly glanced at the old gentleman in surprise, “You know about that ship, old man?”
“It was on that ship that Brown Scott had his accident,” Morris said in a slightly lower voice, “but how did it …… suddenly appear here? And in this way …… too.”
Alice, who was listening to the others’ conversation, looked up at the Obsidian in the distance, then back at Morris and Duncan, and after half a day’s thought, finally came out with a sentence: “Captain, is this a normal situation? Is it normal for a sunken ship to float back up from the sea?”
“Of course this is not a normal situation,” Duncan looked at this Bean, “This is called a ghost ship …… and I suspect that this is not just a ghost ship.”
As he said this, he heard Goathead’s voice suddenly ringing in his head, “Captain, should we fire a couple of cannons and see what happens? The artillery says they’re looking at this right angle and distance a bit hungrily, and can’t help but smash a few shells through ……”
“Let them hold back!” Duncan interrupted Goathead without hesitation, then after a slight pause, turned his head to the few men around him, “We’ll have to go over there and see what’s going on.”
“We’re going …… to that ghost ship?” Shirley instantly shrunk her neck when she heard it, “Will it be a bit presumptuous ah, I’m not afraid of anything else, I’m afraid of what if that ship suddenly sinks back again, after all, it came out of nowhere ……”
“Aye will bring us back,” Duncan gave the girl a faint look, “Of course, if you don’t want to go you can stay over here, this is not forced.”
Shirley opened her mouth, but before she could speak, Dog stepped aside and broke the silence, “We’ll go we’ll go! It’s our duty to serve the captain! We’d love to!”
Shirley was dumbfounded, and then she chanted to her partner in her mind, “Dog, can’t you have some principles ……”
“How is being aware of the situation and actively participating in group activities not a principle?” Ah Dog was cheering up in the spiritual connection, “The big brother is leading the team and I don’t have to worry about safety, so of course I have to show myself properly ……”
“What I mean is that next time the opportunity to hold the big brother’s leg can you give it to me? Every time you are robbed by you ……”
Dog thought for a moment, “…… Shirley can you have some principles?”
Duncan didn’t care that Shirley was exchanging something with Dog by gawking at the same time (he knew that the two ‘people’ must have been muttering over the mental connection again in their silence), but instead looked up at the others, “Want to join us?”
“I’m going!” Nina was the first to raise her hand, she even looked a bit excited, “Ghost ship hey, I’ve only heard about it from legends and stories before, I’ve never even seen it in person.”
“The Lost Country is also a ghost ship,” Duncan had to remind the girl, then looked to the others, “What about you guys?”
“There may be clues left on that ship from before Brown’s accident,” Morris nodded, “I’ll join you.” “I’ll go too,” Vanna followed, “The ghost ship phenomenon is likely related to heresy or evil infestation, and I have more or less experience in that area.”
“I don’t know,” Alice thought for a moment and looked at Duncan, “but I want to stay with the Captain.”
“Then go with all of them, just to see the world,” Duncan said casually, and beckoned down towards the mast not far away, beckoning the pigeon, who was basking in the sun high up in the sky with its eyes closed, down, “Aye, show us to the phantom ship.”
A green flame suddenly rose up on the Lost Country, and a moment later, the huge skeleton bird rose up into the air and swooped down to the Obsidian, which was swaying slightly with the waves.
The deck of the Lost Country then fell silent.
This silence lasted for a short while, and then a dinghy hanging near the side of the Lost Country suddenly made a creaking sound and rocked in frustration.
It was a shuttle boat, normally used to quickly transfer people between two ships in close proximity on the surface.
Two cables coiled around the edge of the deck made a rustling scraping sound and wriggled like snakes to the shuttlecraft, raising the rope heads and slapping them against the shell of the dinghy.
The goat’s head that stayed in the captain’s room of course sensed the situation near the deck, it sighed slightly and struck up a conversation with those old fellows on the ship who had been together for a century, “Why don’t …… you a few dinghies just practice your skills of paddling upside down in the sea ……”
The dinghy rocked with a louder creak ……
On the other side, Aey, who had flown over the Obsidian, didn’t land immediately, but first circled several times over the phantom ship under Duncan’s command, roughly confirming that there were no active targets on the entire ship before landing on a cleaner, more solid-looking deck.
Ghost green flame burning in the air, Duncan several people’s figure from the flame step out.
A distinctly foul odor almost immediately penetrated everyone’s nostrils – it was the fetid stench of seawater immersion, mixed with some indescribable odor of corruption.
Nina was the first to frown upon arriving on the deck, “Vomit …… it smells awful up here ……”
“Not all ghost ships are as clean and tidy as the Lost Country with an unlimited supply of fries,” Duncan said to Nina with a smile, “If this ship is really the Obsidian, it’s been in the deep sea for six years.”
As he spoke, he looked around at the steamer, which revealed itself to be an eerie ship in every way.
Rusted, wrecked, and stained – it may have once been a beautiful and advanced mechanical fast ship, but now all that was left here was a dead pile of steel and wood, and even weirder was the fact that, for a ship that had only just surfaced from the sea, the seawater was missing from this one.
The deck was dry.
Even the many sunken places on the deck, places that should have easily held standing water, were now dry.
Vanna had obviously noticed this as well, and she knelt down and rubbed her fingers against the ground with a slight frown.
She remembered the scene when the ship had surfaced from the sea, when a great deal of seawater had poured down from the Obsidian, looking like a continuous waterfall, and that seawater had washed over all the corners of the entire ship – and judging by common sense, there could be no dry places on this ship.
“Vanna,” Morris turned his head after taking a general look around, “do you sense heresy or evil corruption?”
“…… No,” Vanna frowned and shook her head slowly, she had been focusing on this from the moment she first stepped onto the deck and was constantly sensing any fluctuations in transcendent power around her, “There’s not the slightest hint of transcendent aura, but that’s even more wrong – the deck is dry, which is clearly abnormal, and there should inevitably be transcendent power involved behind the anomaly.”
“Then it could be transcendent power beyond your perception,” Duncan said casually, and stepped forward, “Anyway, if there really is something hidden on this ship, then we just need to look for it more often, and it’s bound to pop up.”
Nina hurried two steps to keep up with her Uncle Duncan, “What if something does jump out?”
Duncan stopped and turned his head with a smile on his face, “Anyway, try to be reasonable first ……”
