Chapter 209

Chapter 209

The next day, the Lardy family arrived in Lakeheart Town on a carriage sent out by the town hall.

Accompanying them were several high-ranking officers from the Southern ship, including Quirk, but they came on horseback.

Despite the early start, it was after 5:00 PM when the group arrived.

“It’s quite a chic town!”

Xela Sertia got out of the carriage and observed the town of Hearts through the rays of the setting sun. Was this where the lords lived? Although it wasn’t as prosperous as Horned Bay, or even as big as the previous Fullan Harbor, it still had a different flavor.

At this time, the heart of the lake town had long since changed from the way it was when Paul had just succeeded as the lord.

He built several new factories on the south bank of the Wise River, including paper mills, porcelain factories, machinery factories are not in the lake island, because whether it is transported raw materials or transported away from the production of goods, through the pontoon bridge is really inconvenient to get in and out.

Later, with the workers recruited from outside the town as well as more and more immigrants from abroad, the Council of State simply built a large number of new pavilions on the south shore of Lake Wise to accommodate them, where the atmosphere of life is becoming more and more intense.

The Council of State is planning to formally establish a residential area here, but is still debating whether to wait for a city planner or break ground now.

In order to facilitate transportation between the two areas, the Council has completed a land reclamation project, narrowing the water between the island and the southern shore of the lake, leaving a distance as wide as a typical city moat.

Although it was a project, it was actually just a matter of levying laborers to carry a few loads of soil. For one thing, the water was not very deep, and for another, the island was not located in the center of Lake Wise, but in the waters extremely close to the south.

The Council of State built a wide stone bridge to replace the original pontoon bridge, greatly facilitating transportation out of the town.

As for security concerns? As the capital of Arda, the town of Lake Center is home to the 1st Battalion of the Army, which is fully equipped with firearms, so if even they can’t stop the enemy, it’s clear that a shallow stretch of lake water won’t be of much use.

“It’s changed quite a bit again from when I left, there are more buildings.”

Lardy lamented, the town was really changing from day to day.

The group crossed the stone bridge and headed inside the town.

“This store sign means …… open water store? Lardy did I read that right?”

“You are not mistaken, mom.”

“Haha, this isn’t a joke is it, there’s a store that specializes in boiling water?”

Xela was a little incredulous, not realizing that her daughter immediately changed her expression to a serious one.

“Mom, this isn’t a joke, it’s a matter of life and death! Lisa, listen to me carefully too.”

Then the female counselor gave them a serious science lesson on microbes.

“Luckily, we’re used to drinking hot water in our house.”

Sheila and Lisa looked miserable, not realizing that there was so much life in the water that they couldn’t see.

But then Xyla suddenly remembered that she used to drink raw water when she was young and at sea, and all of a sudden her whole body went bad.

It wasn’t until half a block later that she slowed down a little.

“But this town is quite neat, even those towns in Horn Bay can’t do this.”

“Trash can only be thrown into those big barrels on the side of the road, do you see those people wearing red armbands? If they see littering, they’ll be fined. If they refuse to pay the fine, they’ll call in the police-similar to the city guards we have there, who maintain public order-to arrest the person who threw the garbage and take him to jail.”

“Fines? Jail time? That’s too much, just for throwing garbage. Shouldn’t this situation slowly build up the people’s self-awareness?”

Xela covered her cherry mouth lightly, a bit upset with the local lord.

“Correction must go too far, but justice cannot be corrected …… Uh, that’s what the lord said.”

Quirk and the others walking behind were curious, the two women had been muttering something in a foreign tongue ever since they entered the town and had no idea what they were talking about. It didn’t take long for the group to arrive in front of the lord’s mansion, and the soldiers of the internal defense force standing guard stopped them.

Lardy walked up and said a few words to the soldier, and one of the guards immediately went inside to report.

If the female advisor was the only one, it would have been fine to go straight in, the female advisor worked in the lord’s mansion on weekdays, and the guards were already familiar with her, but this time, there was also her family as well as all the people from the Southern ship and there were quite a few of them, so the guards had to be cautious.

Soon the soldier came out.

“The Earl-sama asks you to meet in the hall.”

So the crowd followed Lardy to the castle hall, where the local lord–Paul Gladman–was already waiting for them, and with him was his righteous, or blood-sworn, brother–Elon Garnard, and another female counselor –Miss Betty Diaz, both of whom stood by his side, left and right.

The officers aboard the Southern stood at attention in unison and gave a standard military salute to their lord, a peculiar salute that drew a pang of curiosity from Xyla.

“Welcome my heroes, and …… the two ladies from Horn Bay.”

Paul and Theron stepped forward and embraced the officers of the Southern one by one, while Erin went over and embraced Ladi.

“Come on, let’s not stand around, let’s all find a place to sit.”

Once everyone was seated, Lardy introduced Paul to her mother and Lisa.

“Mrs. Sertia, Miss Lisa, I hope you will be happy and enjoy your stay here.”

“Thank you Lord Earl, thank you very much for being able to take my daughter in, my Lardy has caused you much trouble.”

Xela knew that the young lord in front of her had already known her daughter’s identity, and what she said about taking in and adding to the trouble was more than just the matter of hiring her daughter as an advisor.

I don’t know if Paul understood, he just smiled and said, “Where is the trouble, she has done me a great favor.”

Lisa, who was sitting next to Xela, blushed red and was so nervous that she couldn’t say a word, after all, this was a guest in the lord’s house.

However, the main characters of the day were Quirk and the others, and after Paul had exchanged a few pleasantries with Xeyla, he quickly climbed into conversation with them about what had happened on this voyage.

Quirk and several officers gave him a detailed account of the process of entering and exiting the harbor, the meeting with the Foster family, and all the things they had seen in Horn Bay.

But Paul was most concerned about their experiences on the sea, asking in detail about the winds and currents along the way, and the distribution of towns on the coast.

“Do you think that our ocean trade can be carried on? In terms of this aspect of sea transportation alone.”

“Lord Gleeman, I think it is absolutely possible, and it should be launched as soon as possible, Horned Bay is truly a place of wealth everywhere.”

Quirk assured him with conviction.

Hearing his words, Paul’s confidence grew even stronger.

“Uh …… Lord Lord, we have received a special gift in Horn Bay, and we would like to ask you to decide on it.”

“A gift? Is it from the Foster family?”

“No, you’d better take a look at it first.”

At Paul’s puzzled look, Quirk greeted another officer and carried a wooden box to Paul.

The wooden box that required two people to lift was heavy at first glance.

Quake opened the crate, and the golden light that shot out from inside instantly made Paul freeze.
