Chapter 269: The Bell Ringing
Chapter 269: Bell Ringing
Billy gritted his teeth, his face unusually ugly, “That grave square outside isn’t a ritual to aid the curse either. That’s simply a bait for people who know something about curse cultivation to resist stepping in.”
Seeing Billy so angry for the first time, Angela’s expression gradually became grave, “Is it that dangerous? Even you are not sure?”
Although these days away from the tower, she felt self-conscious that she had already experienced many crises, but every time before, Billy seemed to be at ease yet never as grave as today.
The running Billy turned back and looked at Angela with complicated eyes, which made the latter’s heart stutter.
“I’ll watch your back.” With that said, he turned the other way with Angela in tow.
Strangely enough, the sound of the surge behind them disappeared just as they stepped into the new street.
Billy stopped and looked back into the alley.
The red stream of water that had been chasing the two men’s heels at the mouth of the alley had also disappeared.
Billy frowned and was pondering what triggered the curse when he suddenly heard Angela beside him exclaim.
“Saul, why are you here?”
Saul had just walked out of the house where the wandering sorcerer apprentice lived.
He looked down at the small cloth bag he was carrying in his hand and sighed in his heart.
“There is indeed some stock of Sound Grinding Fruits here, it’s just a pity that most of them have already rotted. I was only able to get more than 10 of them by picking and choosing. In that case, trying to do a prolonged Consciousness Platform experiment, these Sound Grinding Fruits can last two times at most.”
There might be other places that had stocks, but there was no way that Saul would be stranded in the town all the time.
He hadn’t forgotten the death warning the diary had issued earlier.
The longer he stays and the more places he explores, the more likely he is to accidentally go behind the scenes.
“Anyway, I’ve already got some of it, so maybe with two more experiments I’ll be able to completely turn the diary into my locator. For now, I’d better find a way to leave. I wonder where Mochi Mochi ran off to.” Saul had just thought of this when he suddenly heard a bell echo.
“Is there a bell tower in this town?” Saul recalled for a moment, “There seems to be one.”
Almost every town had one of these bell towers used to summon civilians, so Saul didn’t pay too much attention last time.
Sol, who heard the bells, didn’t intend to go over to join in the fun either, and instead ran in the direction that turned his back on the bells – the entrance to the town’s gates.
He wasn’t greedy, and had come to this place just to find the Sound Grinding Fruit. Now that the fruit had arrived, it was time to leave.
As for Mochi Mochi?
The other party might not want to leave.
He and Mochi Mochi should be the only ones in the town right now.
The sound of the bell just now was most likely made by Mochi Mochi. And seeing that he purposely separated from Saul halfway, he knew that he wouldn’t necessarily welcome Saul to go over.
Thus, without hesitation, Saul pierced out of this luxurious residential area and ran directly to the widest avenue in the center of the town, preparing to follow that most open road and rush to the town’s gates.
However, just as he stepped onto the avenue, he saw two people turn out from the alley diagonally opposite.
Surprisingly, it was Billy and Angela.
“Why are they here?” Saul’s mind raced.
Before he could make a decision, Angela across the street happened to look up and caught a glimpse of Saul.
“Saul, why are you here?”
Hearing Angela’s cry, Billy also instantly turned his head to look over.
He had just been too focused on analyzing those red tides, thus he did not pay attention to the fact that there were other people on the street.
However, seeing Saul, Billy was not as surprised as Angela.
It seemed to think that Saul’s appearance here was not something hard to understand.
Since he had already collided head-on, Saul didn’t deliberately avoid it.
“I’m leaving this place, what about you guys?” The first thing Saul did was state that he had no intention of competing for the source of the curse in the town.
The visions in the town hadn’t disappeared yet, and since Mochi Mochi could tell from the grave squares outside that the source of the curse existed here. Then it was impossible for Billy, whose reputation was even higher than his among the third level apprentices, not to be able to see it.
Billy was a third level apprentice who could make Tutor Guido depressed.
But to Saul’s surprise, Billy made the same decision as him.
“We’re leaving too.” Angela looked at Saul, then at Billy, and finally stood in the middle and spread her hands, “That’s just as well, let’s go together.”
In Angela’s opinion Billy was a senior third level apprentice and Saul was a student of the tower master, both of them were powerful.
If this town was really as horrible as Billy said, moving together with these two excellent apprentices would make it more likely for her to escape.
Except Angela’s left hand wasn’t as happy as she herself was.
It tugged uneasily on the shirt on Angela’s chest, looking like the most nervous one on the scene.
Saul was stunned, not realizing that their purpose wasn’t to find the source of the curse.
And the latter grimaced and nodded to Saul. Agreeing with Angela’s proposal.
At that moment, another bell sounded, and the three of them turned their heads to look at the same time.
At the end of this avenue, there was a small plaza, and directly opposite the plaza was a not-so-tall, obsolete bell tower.
From their angle, they could just see the bell ling shaking at the top of the bell tower.
There was a rope attached to the bottom of the bell, and it was obviously the kind that shook the rope and drove the bell tongue inside to strike the sound.
But they didn’t see the bell ringer.
With the bell ringing, the sound of waves once again surrounded Sol like a stereo sound.
This time, the sound was closer.
It seemed to be nearby!
Thor knew that if he lingered any longer, he feared he would run headlong into the red tide.
“Go.” Sol greeted and immediately ran towards the town’s gates.
Angela had been keeping an eye on the movements of the two, and when she saw that Saul ran first, she also followed without hesitation. She felt that since she and Saul had run, it was impossible for Billy to remain where he was.
Sure enough, footsteps sounded behind her in the next second.
The three of them ran furiously all the way, none of them still caring about poise at this time.
Luckily, when they ran a few hundred meters, they left the sound of the waves behind them.
They returned to the entrance of the town’s gates by following the way they came.
However, the town gate that appeared in front of everyone’s eyes was intact, and a nearly two-meter-long square wooden stake was being honestly inserted into the latch.
Angela covered her mouth in surprise, “How could this be? The gate was clearly corroded when we came in. How is it intact again?”
“The gate was intact when you guys came in?” Saul also stared at the gates, “But when Mochi Mochi and I came in, we also crashed the gates.”
“That’s not surprising, since it’s a cage for catching people, it’s natural to lock the gate.” Billy said coldly.
As the person with the highest strength in the room, he didn’t hide his clumsiness and directly stepped forward to try to open the door.
Only to see him put one hand against the gate, releasing a light green gas like he did when he came in.
However the gas that managed to corrode the gate when he came in, hit a wall this time.
They strayed away from the gate and appeared to have touched it, but they just had no effect.
Billy sucked back the gases and suddenly looked closer to observe the gap between his hand and the gate.
Then grimacing, he launched a more aggressive corrosive claw at the gate.
The ghastly green eagle-clawed hand struck down hard against the gate.
However the gate did not move at all, not even leaving any traces behind.
After several useless attacks, the corrosive claws dissipated helplessly.
Angela was about to say something when she suddenly saw Saul unleash an arrow spell at the top of the wall.
But not too surprisingly, the arrow clanked against an invisible barrier, snapped in two, and fell inside the town.
“Looks like we really have been caged.” Sol muttered.
