Chapter 258 – The Misty Man
Chapter 258: Misty Man
Sol never knew that the place where he worked was so lively.
He slumped against the wall, his face catching against the gap, on the verge of squeezing his own eyes out.
He saw that the second storeroom was packed with people.
These people were not like the standing corpses. They were illusory, even more unsteady than the forms of the Morton few within the platform of consciousness. The figures drifted apart like mist, only barely maintaining the shape of their limbs and heads.
They stood on the floor, lay between shelves, hid in some crate, and crept up to the ceiling.
These foggy people constantly bobbed their heads from side to side, and although they couldn’t see their facial expressions, they seemed to be searching for something.
“They’re looking for me.” Realizing this, Saul’s right eyeball also began to rotate up and down.
It seemed to be trying to find out all the fog-like people in the room.
Ever since he came to the Sorcerer’s Tower, whether it was in the dormitory, the corpse room, or now the second storage room, he had always acted cautiously.
Even when he was sleeping, he took care not to reveal the presence of his diary.
To that end he even occasionally writes a bit of an actual diary so that he can naturally bring up words associated with it.
Because Saul doesn’t feel safe in the Wizard’s Tower.
Now he had finally found the source of this constant lingering unease.
It was true that, as Golza had said, there were no evil spirits in this wizard’s tower, but it was filled with all kinds of spirits.
There were shards, grudges, and mindless wandering spirits.
Rather than a wizard’s tower, it was a cage for souls.
All the facilities here seem to be related to imprisoning spirits.
It was the so-called laboratories, dormitories, and other structures that were later remodeled to facilitate the occupancy of living beings.
“Can these spirits really see me? And if they can see, will they inform Golza of what I’ve done?”
Thor felt chills and burns down his spine, as if someone had stuffed the inside with ice and poured a pot of scalding hot water down his hand.
A white mist lingered, blinding him to the truth.
“If Golza can learn everything about the tower, then whatever Tutor Anze, Tutor Rum, or anyone else wants to do is actually within his grasp.”
“If some people want to do something bad, they will either do it in a more subtle way or operate outside the tower.”
It suddenly occurred to Saul that the few times he had walked around the wizard’s tower in his spirit state, did the tower master know all about it as well?
At that time, he hadn’t covered up his soul form and remodeled his exterior appearance.
Then did Golsa also know that his soul and body …… did not belong to the same person?
Does Golsa associate it with world traveling?
Or does he just think of him as a wandering soul who preys on other people’s bodies?
But whether Golza knew it or not, and what he thought when he knew it, he never mentioned anything about it to Saul.
“Maybe the tower master is intentionally hiding it, or maybe …… doesn’t care.”
Saul did not find any differences or connections between those foggy people, and could not observe whether they could communicate with people, and could not discover any other clues from those foggy people.
He leaned back out of habit, but realized there wasn’t much room to move at all.
Barely lifting his hand to rub his eyelids, he had some fiery pain in his right eye, as if he had just squeezed it too hard when peeping.
When he touched it with his hand, he could still feel the obvious indentation.
“Let’s see if we can get out on our own first.” Saul tried to stick his fingers out of the slit first like he did when he came in.
Another spinning of the sky followed, and he came out easily.
When he came out, the first thing he did was to look at the gap in the wall, which was still the same as before, and if he didn’t look closely, he wouldn’t even notice that there was a thin gap there.
Thor turned his head, taking mental note of the present time – selectively forgetting that there was a foggy man dangling under the blue hourglass clock.
He then enters the slit again, testing how long he can hide in it at most.
Half a month later ……
Through Mentor Kaz finding someone to cover his shift, Saul took a month’s vacation in one fell swoop.
He was going to sneak a trip to Mill Sail Town this time out.
In order to cover his tracks, the destination he registered in the registration room was Mobei City, which was still more than a day’s journey away from Mill Sail Town. He also deliberately emphasized that he would let the carriage driver with mushrooms growing on top of his head drive for him.
This time, not only was he going to see if there was still any stock of Mill Sail Fruit there in Mill Sail Town, he was also going to find a way to get the seeds and cultivation method.
After successfully building a deliberative platform last time, Saul realized that he was afraid that he would have to do a number of researches if he wanted to transform the diary into his own locator.
And even if he succeeded in transforming the diary into a locator, he could still continue to use the Consciousness Platform to replenish the energy of the soul consciousness hosted in the diary.
This way his black pages would no longer be a temporary consumable.
By the time Saul was clad in a gray cloak and once again in the Sorcerer’s Tower, he was just in time to see a single-rider carriage parked on the avenue.
The coachman was standing by the carriage at the moment, a small mushroom bouncing on his head.
Looking at it from a distance, it seemed as if it wasn’t being blown by the wind, but was actually jumping on its own.
When the coachman saw Saul, he respectfully greeted, “It is a pleasure to drive for you, Lord Saul.”
“This time, we might even make a side trip to the Black Fortress Forest, do you dare to go?” Saul tilted his head slightly, looking at the small mushroom on top of the coachman’s head that was incredibly active in the wind.
“No matter my lord, thank you for your thoughtfulness, but the truth is that this mushroom has also brought me a lot of convenience. At the very least no one dares to compete with me when I am robbing you of your tasks.” The Chevron was unconcerned, and bent down to show it to Sol in order to make it easier for him to observe.
“You haven’t absorbed this mushroom yet?”
“It has not gotten smaller for a long time.” The chevron couldn’t help but raise his hand and touch it with a very gentle movement, “But it’s nothing to get used to.”
His expression was also gentle, as if he was not touching a weird mushroom, but his own child.
Sol narrowed his eyes and looked at the mushroom.
In his semi-immersed vision, the mushroom was extremely active, not like an ordinary plant, but more presenting an animal activity.
However, the Chevalier in front of him was not affected by anything, and his spirit was stable. It was as if the two had reached a symbiotic state.
Just symbiosis with a mushroom, Saul could not be sure what the chevron would become in the future.
“If needed, I can help you with it.”
The Chevron touched his head, thought for a moment, and bowed and said to Sol, “Thank you, my lord. But no need, this mushroom also gives me power, so that when I follow your lordship, perhaps I can help a little as well.”
“Is that what you think …… Then so be it.” Saul did not persuade much.
Everyone had their own choices.
Just like when he chose to follow the path of a sorcerer’s apprentice, he had to bear the same danger of dying at any time.
The Chevalier chose to stay with the mushrooms that brought him power, and likewise had to endure the crisis behind it.
Without affecting himself, Saul would not interfere with an adult’s autonomous choice.
This is the end of the conversation about mushrooms.
The driver opens the door for Saul and waits for the other man to sit down before sitting on the frame in front of him.
“My lord, then we depart for Desolation City?” The coachman asked respectfully.
“Go.” Sol leaned back.
He had prepared many props and materials for this outing, as well as purposely leaving some props in the wizard tower, such as the red-eyed doll given to him by the tower owner.
The doll was both a protection and a kind of surveillance for Saul, and Yura seemed to be able to see what was happening around Saul through this doll.
But Yura doesn’t seem to be exactly on the same page with Gelsa either. Such an unseen and invisible contradiction made Saul think about it and decide to keep it inside the Wizard’s Tower.
Traveling from the Sorcerer’s Tower to Desert Town would take about six days or so by carriage.
Early in the morning five days later, the coachman drove through a not-so-dense forest, breathing heavily in the slightly cool and fresh air.
He liked the early morning, the dew drops in the morning would make his mushrooms comfortable.
Suddenly an unquestionable order came from the carriage behind him, “Reroute at the intersection ahead.”
The carriage driver was stunned, if he diverted the road then it would not be the road to Mobei City.
However, when the driver recalled the destination of the other road, he didn’t say anything and directly tightened the reins, allowing the carriage to turn onto another path.
