Chapter 293 – Ignorance is bliss

Chapter 293 – Ignorance is Bliss
The magic spell recited by sharing the forbidden knowledge of the Profound Demon through the symbiotic contract did not have any effect – the bizarre fact that the spell failed was more astonishing to the two Annihilationists on the scene than the fact that a corpse had awakened early from its coffin.

Not to mention the fact that the “Death Bird” was one of the most powerful demons in the world!

The woman in the black dress with the thin and mean face looked incredulously at the “Resurrectionist” standing quietly in front of her, the black chain spreading out from her collarbone was floating on the surface of the uneasy smoke, and at the same time, she also sensed that the “Tattletale”, which was a symbiotic creature of her own, was not in the right state – the spectral bird was not in the right state – the spectral bird was in the right state. At the same time, she also sensed that her symbiotic “Tattletale” was not in the right state – this profound demon was constantly sending out dangerous signals, and even wanted to sever its connection with its master and return to the profound realm!
She finally reacted, quickly grabbed the chains under the feet of the bird with one hand, and held the other hand in the air, while staring at Duncan’s eyes: “The situation is not right …… You are not the dead man …… Who are you? ”

“Tell me first, who are you?” Duncan looked at the woman in front of him, and then looked at the silent man not far away who was keeping a distance from himself, still holding the “crowbar cane” in his hand, “Let me guess …… First of all, you are obviously not the messengers of death! First of all, you obviously aren’t the messengers of death, you tricked the guards with …… well, the so-called ‘camouflage skills’, you’re coming for me – or rather, for this body I’m currently using, am I right? Right?”

The black-skirted woman opened her mouth slightly, her lips opening and closing as if to say something that Duncan did not hear, and in the next second, the woman suddenly raised her right hand, which she had been holding in a false grip, and the low, muffled murmur in her mouth turned into a grotesque scream!
The “Tattletale” demon resting on her shoulder opened its wings at the same time, and under the control of the symbiotic contract, the demon had to resist its instinctive fear and attacked Duncan.

A heavy pressure suddenly appeared, followed by a perverse vibration and distortion of the earth under his feet, the ground around Duncan suddenly fluctuated like liquid, and then several huge black thorns like bone spikes shot out from the earth and entangled to him!

Duncan, however, had no intention of dodging – mainly because this poor makeshift shell couldn’t really do much to respond with agility – he just watched calmly as the thorns came to him, and watched as they wrapped themselves around his body.

Then, a grand spiritual blaze rose up from that thorn bush, and in an instant, the thorn bush summoned by the magic spell was reduced to a pitch-black ash, accompanied by the remnants of starry flames that passed away with the wind.

“Like I said, why don’t you just swing that bird on your shoulder round and smash it – that might even startle me.”

Duncan sighed helplessly, but as soon as the words left his mouth, he felt that something seemed physically wrong.

He subconsciously raised his hands, and the next moment he was shocked to see crack after crack splitting open on his hands.

Those were not wounds from the thorns just now, but cracks that appeared spontaneously, and right under Duncan’s eyes, those cracks were still growing, as if the skin and muscles of this body suddenly lost their vitality and elasticity, and rapidly cracked in this dry and cold weather.

Very little blood appeared in the fissure, while broken and dried shreds continued to fall to the ground from the wound, and in just a few seconds, Duncan could clearly feel that this already weak body had become a little more fragile.

He looked at the strange changes in his body with surprise, then looked up at the black-skirted woman across from him, “Is this also the power of the magic spell? It worked this time?”

The woman in the black dress seemed to have not recovered from the shock of the failure of the “thorns”, her face was much paler, and the bird of death on her shoulder also drooped breathlessly, however, after hearing Duncan’s words, a smile suddenly appeared on her face: “Ah, it looks like this body is also almost at its limit! has almost reached its limit …… This is much better to deal with.”

“To the limit?” Duncan subconsciously asked, he seemed to have guessed something from the other party’s attitude and words, but just as he was about to say something else, the black-skirted woman suddenly opened her mouth with an icy voice: “Do it.”

When her words fell, the silent and thin man beside her already made a move, he looked at Duncan expressionlessly, while the floating in mid-air, as if a sooty jellyfish-like profound demon suddenly rose and shrunk for a moment, a ball of dark matter with snorting smoke spewed out from the jellyfish’s body, and as if it were a cannonball, it smashed swiftly at Duncan!
However, the “acid cannonball” was already glowing green halfway through its flight, and before it touched its target, it had already disintegrated and dissipated, disappearing without a sound.

Duncan helplessly watched the dark matter explode with a bang: “I told you, this thing has no ……”.

Before he could finish his sentence, the smoke and sparks in mid-air had dissipated, and after the smoke cleared, he saw that the silent man not far away had raised the cane towards himself – the cane had snapped open from it, and poking out of the break was the blackened barrel of a large caliber gun.

“Bang!!!”

Fire exploded from the barrel of the gun, but the sound didn’t travel out of the perimeter of the mortuary platform – the black-skirted woman had already raised her finger in advance to make a gesture of silence.

The large-caliber bullet tore through the air, sending a low noise through the silencing range, and Duncan’s eyes caught the last leg of the bullet’s trajectory, but he did nothing but glance out of the corner of his eye at the silent man who had been symbiotic with the jellyfish-like demon.

The next second, his vision was briefly plunged into darkness.

His head was torn to shreds by the powerful impact of the special bullet, leaving nothing above the neck. Duncan’s body swayed, stood still for a moment, thought for a moment, raised his hand to touch the top of his neck again, and, realizing that he felt nothing, reached up and gave a middle finger in the direction of the black-skirted woman and the silent man, before collapsing on his back.

The black-skirted woman’s eyes stared at the bizarre and terrifying headless body.

She watched as her companion shot the body in the head, and then watched as the body raised its hand to touch the disappeared part of the head, and watched as the body’s bizarre behavior – that was not at all a reaction that a body that had lost its head could make!

Whatever that was – that thing that had taken over this body was definitely not dead! It had simply left, in temporary exile.

Knowing in her heart that it would be dangerous to continue staying, the woman in the black dress had already decided to give up on today’s action, and she immediately looked up to her companions, “Let’s go, leave the cemetery before signaling with those two, the situation is very wrong today ……”

The silent man with the strange cane in his hand, however, did not move for a while, as if he did not hear his companion’s voice.

He stood there silently while a bit of ghostly green fire flickered on the pitch-black chains that extended from his throat.

This bit of spark had dipped into his torso along the chains and blood.

His heart had been torched.

“Hey, do you hear me?” The black-skirted woman’s serious and impatient voice came again, “Get out of here, or when that guard reacts there’ll be too much commotion today!”

The slim man with the cane nodded and slowly turned around.

“What just happened to you?” The black-skirted woman stared at her companion but quickly averted her eyes, “Well, we must hurry and leave, Duncan.”

“Of course,” Duncan smiled, “This is not a place to stay.”

The woman in the black dress nodded and was about to turn and walk up the path, but just as she was about to turn her head, the Tattletale that had been resting on her shoulder suddenly let out a shrill, eerie screech, and the dark demon’s bone fragments clattered and blackened smoke billowed out in all directions, and then it snapped its head around and stared in Duncan’s direction, letting out a strange sound as it did so. immediately after that, it turned its head fiercely and stared at Duncan’s direction, making strange clicking noises while shaking its wings continuously.

Behind Duncan, the jellyfish-like demon floating in the air suddenly burst into flames, a black smoke and flames, the jellyfish demon with no entity was burned up in a few seconds, while the chain connecting the symbiote issued a series of ear-piercing clattering sounds and scattered into a field of broken rings and clasps.

The black-skirted woman jerked to a halt.

Through the link between the chains, she felt the great fear of the “death bird” and the warning of death.

She even vaguely sensed the visual signals of the Tattletale – as the demon on her shoulder turned toward Duncan, a sharp stab of pain instantly pierced her brain like an awl, and she felt her retinas burn, while an uncanny distortion of light and shadow filled her reddish, darkened field of vision!
Unusual Profound Demons did not have hearts, they only moved by instinct, and when great dangers arose, they would not be as concerned about the health of their master’s mind as Dog was.

“Well–” the black-skirted woman instantly let out a low cry, and subconsciously took two steps back in pain and trance, as she held onto the streetlight next to her, and looked in horror at the familiar yet unfamiliar slim figure that was standing right under the interplay of the streetlight’s light and shadows, and “You …… what the hell are you?!”

Duncan sighed regretfully as he glanced over the other woman’s shoulder at the ugly skeletal monstrosity of a bird (much uglier than Aye) and twisted his head to look at the bit of black ash on the ground behind himself.

“Ignorance is bliss,” he shook his head, “you are blessedly thin.”
