Chapter 158 Interrogation 2
Chapter 158 Interrogation 2
The captive struggled.
“No, I’m telling the truth, I really don’t know anything else.”
But the interrogator was very much convinced of the cloaked man’s words, and he pinched his knuckles to the point of clicking, saying in a tone full of tyranny, “It looks like you don’t know what this place is until you’re given a bit of a show!”
“Someone, waterboard him!”
Soon, two jailers came over to untie the captive who was hanging in mid-air, and tied him face up on a bar stool again, his limbs also waist blocked by ropes tightly tied.
One of the jailers took a towel and put it over the captive’s face.
The inquisitor came to the captive with a bucket of water, which he scooped up with a ladle and threw with a flourish of his arm over the towel-covered face of the captive.
“Ahem~”
The captive choked on the water, and he immediately held his breath to avoid the water seeping into the towel from continuing to flow into his nostrils.
But this was destined to be futile.
The captive was lying face up on his back, and both of his hands were also bound in a deadly grip, so all he could do was violently shake his head from side to side in an effort to shake the towel off.
The towel, however, stuck to his face as if it were stuck to him, and he could not shake it off.
“Haha! It’s useless for you to struggle any more! If you honestly hand over the concealed information, I will immediately remove the towel for you.”
The interrogator kept on carping as he scooped up another half a scoop of water and sprinkled it on the towel.
Because of the violent struggle just now, the oxygen in the captive’s body was quickly depleted, and a strong sense of suffocation kept hitting his brain.
“Mmm! Uh-“
The captive let out a sound in pain, and finally, he couldn’t hold back any longer, suddenly releasing his air holes to take a quick breath.
However along with the influx of air there was also a large amount of water that was sucked into his mouth and nose, and in addition to the still-present feeling of suffocation, another kind of pain-a feeling of being on the verge of drowning-came rushing in.
The inquisitor said with great excitement, “It looks like you’re enjoying this feeling, so I’ll let you enjoy it some more!”
After saying that, he sprinkled half a dipper of water on the towel again.
The cloaked man on the side watched with interest as the inquisitor tortured his captive, and he proceeded to go back to the chair he had just sat down in, crossed his legs, and took his time to enjoy it.
“Interesting, interesting!”
The corner of the cloaked man’s mouth curled up slightly as he smiled while muttering to himself.
“I didn’t realize that mortals could come up with such tactics, I can see that this is much more effective than those magic for torture.”
The captive was still trying to shake the towel off his face, and since he couldn’t breathe, the body’s conditioned reflexes drove him to open his mouth wide and breathe and swallow hard, whereupon a large amount of water was sucked into his stomach, the lobes of his lungs, and his bronchial tubes.
The water in the stomach, lung lobes and bronchial tubes produced unbearable pain in his body, and he coughed, vomited and thrashed his feet.
After about two or three minutes, the captive basically lost consciousness, but his central nerves were still working, and the central nerves were still protecting the master, and at this moment, although the captive lost consciousness, the physical pain was even more agonizing, and his whole body began to spasm.
A large amount of viscous secretion – i.e., a large amount of thick snot – began to be secreted from the lobes of his lungs, the trachea and the bronchial tubes.
Suddenly, an odor of urine filled the interrogation room, and the captive began to urinate incontinently.
A lash hit him hard.
“Really, to be pissing on my lord’s territory.”
Feeling that it was almost time, the interrogator lifted the towel covering the captive’s face with one hand.
The two jailers untied the ropes and sat the captive up, slapping his back vigorously.
“Cough! Cough!”
The captive coughed violently while choking out a large amount of water from his mouth and nose.
The interrogator clasped both hands on his chest and asked smugly, “Well? Are you confessing or not?”
“Let me tell you, this ‘water torture’ of mine is very efficient oh! Anyone who enjoys this trick, about eighty percent of them will open their mouths and say whatever they are told to say. As for the remaining twenty percent of people ……”
A chilling smile crossed his face, “And guess what? They were all tortured alive during the torture process!”
In order for the captive to regain consciousness as soon as possible, the jailer swung his whip to severely whip him a few times.
“I said …… cough …… I said ……”
The captive’s brain regained consciousness, he finally couldn’t stand it anymore, that kind of hellish feeling he never wanted to undergo a second time.
“What a toast, if you had said it earlier you wouldn’t have had to suffer so much. Honestly say it all.” The captive didn’t open his mouth to give an explanation right away, he just couldn’t stop gasping for air, air was too precious for him right now.
“Untie him!”
The interrogator was in no hurry now, the other party’s psychological defense had already been broken.
The captive closed his eyes and tried to adjust his breathing as he slowly eased up.
The cloaked man, who had been “watching” the execution, came up.
“This time, you have to give an honest explanation, oh, as long as there is a tiny bit of inaccuracy in your confession, I will be able to detect it right away. At that time ……”
He pointed to the interrogator next to him.
“This lord will let you enjoy what you just did again. No why, honestly, I’m kind of looking forward to you lying, so that I can watch the wonderful performance just now once more. Hahahahaha!”
The interrogation room resounded with his maniacal laughter.
……
In the makeshift command headquarters located in the central area of the town, several officers, including Samar, were gathered together, discussing the new information obtained from the captives.
The cloaked man who had previously assisted the Inquisitor in the dungeon in extracting a confession was speaking.
“Lord Samar, I think now is the best time to attack, to take the Thorn Fortress in one fell swoop while the main force of the King’s Party army has yet to move south.”
“After taking the fortress, even if we don’t fight in the middle of the upcoming winter, we’ll be able to gain a greatly favorable position after the start of the coming spring.”
Samar rested his chin on one hand and coldly watched the cloaked man’s performance without a word.
He really didn’t have any good feelings towards this strange man in front of him, for no other reason than the fact that the other party was a sorcerer.
It was no secret in the rebel hierarchy that Archduke Giles had sorcerers working under his command – or assisting him, and in good numbers.
The addition of this mysterious force was one of the major reasons that prompted the Archduke to make up his mind to start a rebellion.
When the Archduke opened up to his inner circle and key minions about the existence of sorcerers under his command, many thought it was a pipe dream.
But the magical abilities those people displayed soon convinced everyone of their identity and convinced them that the addition of wizards was indeed a great help to their side.
As for the interference of the church forces? Through the silent layout that lasted for several generations, the middle and upper levels of the Southern Church had long been held by the people of the Giles family, even if they were allowed to break with the Church headquarters, of course, provided that the Archduke had the strength to fight against the Church headquarters.
Now although it can’t be done to break with the Church headquarters, but it is still very easy to hide the existence of witches.
However, given the traditional image of sorcerers, many generals were still suspicious of this group, and Samar was one of them.
His heart was quite upset right now, this laborious sorcerer had suddenly appeared in the army some time ago with the Archduke’s warrant, claiming to be here to assist him.
But he soon realized that the sorcerer was always constantly trying to replace him in controlling this army, or trying to overthrow him.
Luckily, his own hand was strong, and he held the power in his hand with a deadly grip, not letting this insidious fellow succeed.
In his opinion, this sorcerer was too good for his own good, clearly knowing nothing about the military, but repeatedly urging himself to attack the Thorn Fortress.
Boy! That was Fortress of Thorns, known as the number one majestic pass in the south, the existence on which successive generations of Dodge family heads had relied to split the earth and call it public.
Samar thought that he was also a bit “crazy”, but he was not crazy enough to take down the Thorns Fortress with this amount of troops at hand.
So he made up his mind, the current stage is just to keep an eye on the fort’s defenders, and wait until the Grand Duke calmed down those thorns in the south, led the main force to meet with him and then make plans.
He had already rejected this wizard’s proposal several times before, perhaps the other party held mysterious power, but he was really a small white man when it came to military matters.
The rather unconvinced sorcerer had shown his power several days ago.
He cast a spell on several scouts, who were merely wearing a set of soft leather armor that did not affect their movement at the time, but under the effect of the mysterious power, they actually gained a defensive power comparable to plate armor.
“Have them head north deeper into the other side’s guarded area, capture a few tongues and bring them back, and if we can torture them to find out that there are insufficient troops in the fortress, we’ll attack!”
The fire in the granary of the king’s capital had already spread among the southern army, and the probability was that they were incapable of sending troops south, which was why the sorcerer was so confident.
“Good! If the opponent’s troops are really low to a certain extent, we’ll attack.”
This was how Samar agreed at that time.
Now that the intelligence was tortured out, there were only a few thousand troops inside the fortress, while the sorcerer claimed that under his magic, all lies had nothing to hide, and that the intelligence was 100% true.
So, to fight or not to fight?
