Chapter 156: What are you looking for?

Chapter 156: What Are You Looking For

“Mentor, if I choose the exit, is it docked with you?”

“Any mentor could be, and the projects that Mentor Tari researches are more or less related to death.” Mentor Katz meant it.

If it was before, Saul probably wouldn’t have thought too much about it.

But since he knew that Tari wanted to resurrect Lady Yura, he immediately guessed if all these research projects were related to resurrecting Lady Yura.

If that was really the case, then Golstadt wanted to be an obsessive person in the field!

It always felt like it didn’t go well with his appearance and personality.

“Mentor, I’d like to pick the export job.” Sol didn’t let Kaz wait too long and made his choice.

“You are as bold as ever.” A strange smile appeared on Kaz’s gloomy expression, not knowing if he was satisfied with Saul’s choice.

He turned his head to face the corridor to his right and raised his voice, “Kujin!”

After waiting for what could be about ten seconds, the door to the right corridor slowly opened and a tall man walked out.

He appeared to be close to two meters tall, and the current Saul looked like a tiny little man in front of him. The name tag on his chest clearly indicated that he was a third level apprentice.

“When will I grow taller?” As Kukin approached, Saul’s neck lifted a little bit until it was at a very awkward angle.

In front of Kaz, Kukin tried to calm himself down a bit, but the corners of his downturned mouth still revealed his reluctance.

“Mentor Kaz.”

“You will now prepare to hand over your duties to Saul.” Without explanation, without introduction, and without giving Kukin a chance to fight for it, Kaz simply pronounced the final result.

Kujin looked over at Saul, noting the brand new name tag on his chest, his cheeks bulging and shrinking, bulging and shrinking.

He still couldn’t hold back, “Mentor Kaz, letting such a newcomer take over the job in case he screws up ……”

“That’s his business.” Kaz waved his hand, he was always impatient in that regard.

Kujin could only swallow back any more complaints.

If the Kukin standing here was just a second level apprentice, he would definitely not dare to say a single word of nonsense.

“Yes.” Ku Jin lowered his head as he turned to Sol, “Come over here.”

Saul followed Kukin and took two steps, only to realize that Instructor Katz was not following.

He looked back at Mentor Katz, but realized that the other party was looking at him with a complicated face.

Seeing Saul turn back, the emotions on Kaz’s face were hidden under the wrinkles, “Go on, why do you still want me to give you a ride?”

Saul stopped and bowed to Kaz, “Mentor take your time.”

Kaz lightly grunted and left quickly with his hands behind his back.

When Saul turned back again, he saw that Kukin was already almost at the door, and he hurriedly ran two quick steps to follow him.

“There are hundreds of materials here, but the most is this one.” Kukin said, pushing open the heavy door with one hand.

Behind the door was an extremely bright world.

There were so many candlesticks here that Saul’s eyes were shaken for a moment when he just looked over.

When he adapted to the brightness inside, he saw that there were …… many people standing inside the door.

His heart jumped, and he immediately held his breath, followed behind Kujin, and slowly walked in.

Behind this third door, there were hundreds of people standing neatly.

The people were neatly aligned with each other, each separated by a distance of one meter. Legs together, hands naturally hanging down.

It was as if they were standing in military posture.

But each and every one of them had their eyes closed, and the skin on their faces was as pale as paper.

Looking closely, none of them had a chest that was still heaving.

These were all dead people!

“Scared?” Kukin stared intently at Saul’s reaction, as if he wanted to see his joke.

But Saul didn’t lose his temper except that his face became a bit more serious.

“It’s okay, I’ve worked in the corpse room on the second floor before, and I’ve seen my fair share of oddly shaped corpses.”

“Heh,” Kukin hooked up the corner of his mouth disdainfully, “What you’ve seen can only be called corpses. Now these people in front of you were all at least second level apprentices when they were alive.”

“At least second level apprentices?” This time Saul was a bit surprised, “Could it be that there are still many third level apprentices here?”

“The most powerful ones here are full-fledged wizards.” Kukin finished, enjoying Saul’s wide eyes, and slightly open mouth.

However, Saul quickly gathered his emotions and immediately asked, “There must be many requirements and taboos for managing these corpses, right?”

“There are only two taboos here.” “One, keep at least 81 candlesticks in the room lit.”

“Two, materials marked with serial numbers are not allowed to be touched or moved.”

The fewer the taboos, the more this taboo cannot be violated.

“There are a lot of rules, they are all memorized in the manual over there, just read them slowly in a while.”

Saul kept the two taboos firmly in his mind, but still maintained a sense of skepticism, “Elder Kujin, are the two taboos written in the book as well?”

“…… Yes, on the first page. You don’t have to worry about me lying to you.” Kukin stepped forward, “The only one who dies for violating the taboos is you, but if I intentionally don’t do my duty during the handover, then I won’t be able to escape either.”

As Kujin’s tall stature passed a body, his arm brushed against it, rubbing that body a bit askew.

He immediately stopped and righted the body.

Saul made a silent note of this, thinking to look for it in the manual later.

It was only after passing through the group of dead people that the tall cabinets common to the storage room were visible. The cabinets displayed a lot of storage equipment.

Bottles and cans, boxes and pockets, as well as metal stands and running soil.

Saul followed Kukin, walking in through the passageway in the middle of the cabinets.

There was a wide space at the end of the cabinet from the wall, which should be where Kukin studied and researched in his spare time.

Saul saw a five-meter long table at a glance, as well as cabinets nailed to the wall and the ground.

The long table was clean, and it looked like it had been deliberately tidied up. I don’t know if it was due to Kukin’s character, or if it was a temporary tidy-up.

If it was the latter, it meant that before Saul came, Kukin already knew that his job might be replaced by a newcomer.

Saul thought to himself, “Perhaps, this job was actually arranged for me by the tower master?”

After all, it was Golza who was the first person in the Sorcerer’s Tower to know that Saul had advanced and was about to return to the tower.

Moreover, Saul had been suspecting for the past two years that it was also the Tower Master’s behind-the-scenes arrangement that allowed him to get the opportunity to work in the Corpse Room.

Hopefully, the only thing the Tower Master saw was really his talent for souls.

Kukin took out the rulebook and handed Saul three more quills.

The quills were exaggeratedly large, and their overall length even exceeded Sol’s arm.

“This is the summoning pen, once the tutor has a need, this pen will write down the request on paper. Although most of the time the tutor will issue the request after three in the afternoon, if you are in a hurry, it is possible that you will be asked to get up in the middle of the night to prepare something. You can keep one in your dorm room for backup, or you can choose to stay here.”

“Live here?” Saul was stunned, “Isn’t it a requirement that you have to be out of the East Tower by eight p.m.?”

Kukin moved his things to the trailer next to the table, “This is where one of the most dangerous parts of the East Tower is, but it’s also the safest.”

Since his things were already neatly packed, Kukin finished moving all of his stuff in a few tries.

He pushed the cart and squinted at Saul, condescending, “As long as you don’t break any taboos.”

After saying that, he pushed the cart away.

The hourglass clock that kept time was behind Saul, and he looked back to see that it was just after nine in the morning.

Saul picked up the manual and flipped through it twice, “Second Depot Code?”

There were about a dozen pages filled with writing in it, but there were also the next dozen or so pages that were blank, as if waiting for someone to add a new rule at any time.

The two taboos mentioned by Kukin were indeed written plainly on the first page of the manual.

Other than these two taboos, nothing else was written on the first page.

Saul flipped through it from beginning to end and checked the entire book again, and did not find any scribbles or modifications, nor did any magical fluctuations remain.

Only then did he put the booklet back on the table.

“It’s still a long time until three in the afternoon.” Saul’s white bone fingers tapped back and forth on the table, making a crisp ringing sound, “Better go check the body and soul again, and have a more specialized person find out where that dark shadow is hiding.”

Although after Byron and Nick’s examination, they did not find any other souls in Saul’s body. However, last night’s experience made Saul certain that there was a ghostly thing hiding around him.

This time, he was prepared to go to the Physician Apprentice in the Sorcerer’s Tower who specialized in checking the physical and mental health of apprentices.

It just cost quite a few credits.

But spending credits was also better than hiding an unknown spirit around all the time.

Saul had just taken a step when he heard a voice ringing around him.

“What are you looking for? Me?”

A dark shadow suddenly appeared in front of Saul’s eyes, blocking his way.

Saul looked up and was met with a pair of mesmerizing red eyes.
