Chapter 154 – Dead Man’s Flower
Chapter 154 Dead Man’s Flower
Saul had a dream.
When he opened his eyes, he rolled over violently, stuck his head out of the bed, and dry-heaved a few times.
Since he hadn’t eaten properly in a long time, he only vomited up a little bit of acid.
Instead, his throat was on fire as a result.
He casually wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, forgetting that his hand had already turned into white bone.
Now it was his mouth and throat that hurt together.
He sat up from the bed and was pleasantly surprised to find that all of last night’s exhaustion and headache had disappeared.
“Is sleep working so well? Then was I wrong to always meditate instead of sleeping before?”
Saul got up in good spirits and cleaned up his personal hygiene properly.
“Think about what you’re going to do today.”
Going to see Mentor Katz first? Or go to the registration room to change the name tag of a second level apprentice first?
Or find Senior Byron to split the payment for this mission.
This time out, Saul had so much to gain and added more questions.
But things could only be done little by little.
In the end, he decided that he would first go to Nick for a physical checkup.
After all, he might have a spirit body attached to him, and this matter still needed to be resolved as soon as possible.
Otherwise, a lot of things would be inconvenient for him.
However, when Saul went to the twelfth floor of the West Tower to look for Nick, he found a few level two apprentices surrounding the place.
Second level apprentices weren’t as hilarious as first level apprentices, so this was quite a rare scene now.
Sol couldn’t help but walk over as well.
There weren’t a lot of onlookers, and even the not-so-tall Saul easily found an opening.
When Saul saw the scene inside, he frowned slightly.
Dead people.
It was a servant, who shouldn’t be more than fifteen years old judging by his age.
One skeleton leg stood firmly on the ground, while the other leg was twisted to an upward slanting angle, and the hands were also raised upward.
The head, on the other hand, had a flower in it.
Flesh and blood as petals, white bones as stamens.
The arms and one leg were leaves, leaving one limb as a flower stem.
Saul pursed his lips with difficulty.
He was a little nauseous.
It wasn’t because of the bizarre look of the body – he’d seen quite a few more gruesome ones than this in the necropolis.
Rather, it was because, well, he knew this body.
Last night, it was he who, little by little, had pruned the young servant into this shape.
He also remembered how those extra bones and flesh were chewed and then devoured into his stomach.
“Saul.” Someone suddenly called out to him.
Saul turned around and it was none other than Nick he was looking for.
At that moment, Nick also saw the dead man in the crowd, and his eyebrows twitched gently.
“Dead man’s flower.”
“What?”
“Also known as the Bone Pistil, it’s a ritual sacrifice to the dead by some extinct species. I didn’t realize it had reappeared in the Sorcerer’s Tower.”
At that moment a man next to him picked up, “This isn’t the first one.”
The person who spoke clasped his hands to his chest, his face filled with disgust.
“Sari? You’re physically recovered?” Nick obviously recognized him.
“Just scraping by and living, is it possible to die?” Sari spoke nonchalantly.
But Nick didn’t take offense and introduced him to Saul.
“Saul, recently promoted to level two.”
Sol, who had temporarily suppressed his nausea, nodded at Sari.
But Sari just glanced at Sol, unwilling to even make a show of it.
“Are you saying this has happened before?” Saul didn’t care about the other party’s attitude, he was more curious about the dead man’s flower.
Sari looked over coldly and was just about to say something when Nick interrupted.
“To Saul, you better be polite.”
Sari looked at Nick with some surprise and saw that the other man didn’t look like he was joking before answering Saul with some embarrassment.
“This is the fourth one in the last half a month.” His tone was already bad, but now it added to the stiffness, “The Chief Steward issued a mission to the second level apprentices before. Now it seems that I’m afraid we need a third level apprentice to resolve this matter.”
Seemingly feeling a little itchy, Sari raised his hand and scratched his cheek.
He exerted himself so hard that his sharp nails pierced the skin in one go, and a few drops of blood oozed out of the wound and soaked into his nails.
But both Sari himself and Nick looked like they were used to it.
“Satisfied?” Sari lowered his hand to look at Saul, this time with a little more probing in his eyes.
Saul wasn’t polite and continued, “Who do you think could have done it?”
Perhaps Saul’s attitude was too natural, and Sari subconsciously replied, “Maybe it’s some bitter secondary with no hope of promotion.”
After saying this, Sari twisted his head and left, not giving Saul the chance to continue asking.
Nick was watching the fun from the sidelines, and only at this point did he say to Saul, “Are you moving or coming to find me?” “I want you to check my body again for attached spirits.”
Nick balked, “No problem, let’s go to the lab then.”
Sitting on the inductive chair in the lab once again, Saul had very mixed feelings.
“It’s just checking for spirits, you shouldn’t turn up the power so much.”
“No problem.”
Nick was burying his head in inserting wire pins into Saul’s body, only to have his movements stop when he reached his arm.
“That’s it for your arm?”
Saul looked at his white bony hands, and indeed there was no way to place the needle.
“Wait until I fix my body first.”
Nick tried to stick the needles into the cracks of the bones, and after failing, he helplessly threw the wires on the ground.
“Never mind, it’s not that bad, so I’ll start?”
Maybe after the warning Nick hadn’t turned up the power so much, or maybe it was the fact that Saul was fourteen and had a little more willpower than he used to have.
Anyway, this time he wasn’t soothed to the point of losing consciousness, and even had the effort to remember last night’s dream.
Last night in his dream he had been walking in the ice for a long, long time.
It was hard to find a small house with candlelight coming through the windows.
It must have been warm in here!
Saul thought so at the time.
Despite being cold and hungry, he restrained himself and knocked on the door of the room in a polite rhythm.
There was someone in the room, he was certain, but refused to let him in.
Saul was angry.
He figured even if you wouldn’t share his food, it would be nice to let him in to get out of the snow.
How can people be so selfish?
So he knocked harder on the door.
A soft laugh came from the room, as if mocking him as a poor beggar.
Saul became even angrier.
He slammed down the door of the room, vowing to give whoever was inside color.
Finally, with his continued efforts, the lock loosened and he kicked the door open to be greeted by a sumptuous feast.
Saul couldn’t resist pouncing on it any longer.
He wasn’t thinking about revenge anymore, he just wanted to eat all these delicacies.
But right after he took a bite, the stagnant and hard-to-chew pieces of meat mixed with the strong smell of blood awakened Saul’s consciousness at once.
Finally, he realized that he was dreaming.
But in this dream, he was unexpectedly unable to control his actions at all, and couldn’t even move his eyes to look around.
His eyes stayed fixed on the bloody boy in front of him.
His stomach burned with hunger and his tongue screamed that it wasn’t enough! It wasn’t enough!
With that, Saul watched himself brutalize the boy while remaining conscious.
After the feast, he hand iterated a fake flower to leave in the room as a reward for his host’s hospitality.
“KAM!”
Saul’s eyes snapped open, the nausea having completely overpowered the relief.
Across the room, Nick put down the operating disk in a daze, “Why do you look so bad? Did I get the parameters backwards?”
Saul took a deep breath to pull himself away from the memories.
“No,” Saul didn’t want to answer that question, “Did you check to see if I had any spirits on me?”
Nick could feel Saul’s grumpy mood, but since the other man didn’t want to talk about it, he didn’t mention it.
“No, no emotions other than that little guy on the back of your neck. If you feel haunted by a spirit, it’s probably just some residual thought that will go away in a couple days.”
Nick came over and helped Saul out of his bonds.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.” Nick hesitated to ask the question he had been holding back all night, “Tower Master he really is your ……”
“That’s not allowed to be said.”
“Understood.” Nick immediately stopped his curiosity, but he still prompted Saul, “It’s just that on that day, I wasn’t the only one on the ship. There’s a good chance this will get out.”
Saul wiggled his wrists, the electric shock he’d just received had sparked an anti-electric field etched into his white bones, and now the cracks in his bones were a little sore.
“It’s okay.” He said.
The Tower Master had taken the initiative to pick it out in front of people anyway, and Saul didn’t care if the secret would get out.
Suddenly, an arm-thick black tentacle stretched out from the back of Sol’s neck in a long way, dropping down to the ground.
The tip of the tentacle split open into a shark’s mouth, and a black tongue protruded from it, also paralyzed on the ground.
The mouth was still hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi-hachi.
Nick: “It …… has a long reflex arc.”
Saul: “……”
Today to visit relatives, may …… last night to set off firecrackers, the flavor of the year is getting stronger ah
