Chapter 128: Dinner together
Chapter 128 Dinner Together
There were some words that were destined not to be discussed in front of Nina.
Listening to the sight described by Dog, Duncan’s heart skipped a beat.
There was ash …… floating around him in large quantities …… What did this mean?
In that factory shrouded in curtains, there were ashes everywhere that had been hidden away, ashes that were traces of the flames that had once burned, proof that the fire had once existed, symbolizing things that had been destroyed, then the ashes around Nina ……
He looked up at the staircase that led to the second floor.
Nina was busy in the kitchen on the second floor, the sound of her cooking could be faintly heard from here, the clattering of kitchen utensils seemed brisk, that optimistic girl had been through a lot today but was still in a good mood at the moment.
He withdrew his eyes and looked over at Sherry, who was sitting across from him.
“So, after Dog told you that it had found a very suspicious target, you found a way to infiltrate the school, and tried to look for clues around Nina, while at the same time you started approaching the Sunbringers who were operating in the city, trying to look for clues on them to unlock the secret of the fire eleven years ago… …”
Sherry nodded her head softly, “Yes.”
“I guess, what you’re looking for isn’t actually the Sun Shard, right?”
“What’s the point of …… looking for sun fragments?” Shirley asked rhetorically, “To find a flame and question why it’s burning? What I’m looking for …… is the person who set the fire back then.”
“This isn’t an ordinary fire,” Duncan gazed quietly into Shirley’s eyes, “If that really is a fragment of the sun …… it could do more than incinerate a factory. Shirley, you’re doing something very, very dangerous.”
“Don’t be angry if I’m honest,” Shirley thought for a moment, honestly bowing her head, “I think sitting in front of you is dangerous enough ……”
“…… Haha, probably,” Duncan was slightly taken aback and couldn’t help but laugh, before he got up from behind the counter and slowly made his way towards the staircase that led up to the second floor, “I was just casually making a kind reminder, of course How you judge is up to you.”
“Wait a minute,” Shirley stood up suddenly, but then hesitated a little, hesitating for a couple seconds before continuing to speak, “judging by your attitude …… you weren’t previously aware of the specialness in Nina?”
Duncan paused, and after a slight pause, he raised his hand and pointed to his eyes, “It seems that this body I’m currently using doesn’t have very good ‘eyes’, and there are some things I haven’t really noticed.”
This body ……
Sherry noted the words keenly, but she didn’t dare to ask anything, only being a bit curious as she watched the other continue to stride towards the stairs, “What are you going to do now?”
“What for? Upstairs for dinner, of course,” Duncan said matter of factly as he glanced down, “You guys come up too, it’s dinner time.”
Dinner time.
What was it like to eat at the home of a subspace bigwig?
Shelly didn’t know how to describe how many strange and bizarre thoughts flashed through her mind as she followed the big man up the stairs, nervous and expectant, curious and fearful, unable to stop herself from speculating about what horrors and oddities would be on the table, even though she knew it was most likely just an ordinary, everyday meal.
In this seemingly ordinary antique store, lived a shadow from subspace, this is the nest of subspace shadow, is the collapse of the gap between the real world and the deep world, and in such a nest …… even if the table appeared to be the heir of the evil god in her view is a fairly normal situation.
It was with this head of wild speculation and nervousness that Shirley made her way upstairs to the slightly cramped kitchen, and then saw what was on the table.
It was nothing more than a plate of freshly heated hard bread, a pot of vegetable soup, the most common in the lower city, and some tomato sauce and mushroom sauce.
The most striking thing on the table was a pot of fish soup – a few pieces of fish that had already been cut and processed and could not be seen in its original form floated in the whitish broth, and there was a fresh and fragrant smell floating around, stirring up Shirley’s intestinal peristalsis.
“I made soup out of half a salted fish that was left in the kitchen,” Nina said to Duncan with a smile, then looked over at Shirley, “Uncle bought this fish, try it, it tastes great!”
Shirley sat down at the table a little confused, her eyes sweeping between the unusual meals, Duncan next to her couldn’t help but laugh, “What, the meals are so ordinary that they’re out of this world? Or is it not to your liking?”
“Ah, no, no, no, no …… this is much better than what I usually eat ……,” Shirley replied subconsciously, adding right after, “But it does didn’t realize that it would be something so ordinary.”
“This fish looks a bit strange,” Dog, who was next to her, also poked his head to look at the food on the table and spoke in a muffled voice, “It always feels …… a bit familiar?”
“What do you know about food?” Shirley sniffed and gave it a look, “Your kind that usually gnaws on rocks as cookies ……”
“Doesn’t Mr. Dog eat?” Nina sniffed in surprise.
“The Phantom Demon doesn’t eat human food – in fact it doesn’t have to eat at all,” Shirley nodded, “Just nibbles on rocks and steel plates and such when it grinds its teeth occasionally.”
Dog grunted at that and shook his head, “I’m a little sad that you say that, how did I manage to steal food from outside to feed you in the first place you’ve forgotten? Occasionally I do eat some ……”
As it spoke, it plopped down to the edge of the dining table and got closer to the pot of fish soup, however, after waiting to stare at the fish soup for two seconds, the second half of its unfinished sentence came to an abrupt end.
In the next second, this Profound Hound violently withdrew its line of sight, giggled and scurried back to its original position, and plopped down there without moving.
Shirley was confused by the other party’s reaction, “What’s wrong with you, Dog?” Dog’s first look was at Duncan and all he saw was the other’s gentle smile.
“What? Don’t like fish?” The unnamable swirl of light asked with a smile.
Dog’s head shook from side to side, and suddenly, it felt that the so-called friendly conversations, kind and easy smiles, and the friendship of cooperation and investigation were all just illusions, and in the depths of the indescribably distorted light, there was really only terror!
A level higher than it “deep sea heir” was chopped up and stewed into soup, and even the essence has really become “food”…… This kind of horrible thing is being staged at that table!
“I …… don’t like eating fish.”
The Phantom Hound said in a muffled voice.
Out of the corner of its eye, the pot of freshly made fish soup was still radiating heat and smelling good to humans.
He knew that what was in that pot was really a fish, and whatever it had been, it was now a fish.
The nature of the heir had long since been distorted and altered, and had it not been for the eyes that the Profound Lord had given him, even he would not have been able to recognize those pieces of minced meat for what they were.
Nowadays, it was really harmless food, even if Sherry ate it.
But Dog himself was dead set on not going anywhere near the area around that table today!
Duncan didn’t know why Dog suddenly reacted so strongly to the fish soup, but figured it had something to do with the Spectral Demon’s special recipe, so he didn’t care.
His attention was on Nina.
Nina didn’t look any different than usual, and while she may have had a few more things on her mind, the understanding child chose to deal with her feelings in a way that wouldn’t embarrass anyone.
On the other hand, Duncan already knew that Nina was “hiding” something around …….
Or in other words, the huge and invisible “curtain” in the factory is also spreading invisibly, enveloping Nina.
He did not dare to make a direct judgment, and there is no way to determine what the ashes surrounding Nina actually means, but there is no doubt that in the fire eleven years ago, Nina must have been in an extremely special position.
Just as special as that factory.
Nina, however, knew nothing; she had been living like this for eleven years without knowing anything.
“Uncle?” Nina finally noticed Duncan’s gaze and she was a little confused, “What’s wrong?”
Duncan didn’t answer, he just reached out and gently stroked the top of Nina’s head.
Nina was stunned for a moment, and immediately afterward she bobbed her head from side to side, “I’m not a child anymore!”
“I know, you’re not a little kid anymore,” Duncan smiled, and there were tiny flashes of ghostly green points of light between Nina’s shaking hair, “but you’re still a kid.”
Nina puffed out her cheeks slightly.
“Uncle, are you going to follow Shirley to …… ‘investigate’ later?”
She finally couldn’t help but ask.
“Within safe limits.” Duncan replied seriously.
“Can’t …… we not go?”
Duncan shook his head, “Can’t.”
Nina was silent for a moment and asked again, “Then what can I do?”
“Eat well,” Duncan flashed a small smile and pointed to the table, “then sleep well, study well, and finally protect yourself, as well as trust your Uncle Duncan.”
Nina stuffed a piece of bread into her mouth, bulging.
“Uh-huh.”
