Chapter 121 Rescue
Chapter 121 Rescue
Time seemed to suddenly slow down, and in the darkness and the approaching heat, Nina felt her mind racing uncontrollably –
It was as if she recalled when she was a little girl, when she and her uncle ran up and down the antique store together to “help”, but made a mess of everything, when her uncle explained to her the stories behind those “antiques”, but in the end, they were all just I recalled the first time I went to school, the first time I saw a steam engine in a textbook, the first time I got a compliment from a teacher, the first time I made a friend …… and the first time I lost a friend.
She felt her mind was in a mess, and her consciousness became more and more confused.
The smoke had begun to seep into the room a little, affecting breathing as well as thoughts.
And all those flurry of memories ended up all becoming engulfed in flames.
A big fire …… a big fire that only exists in the memory, seems to be burning again in front of her eyes.
Nina was somewhat lost in thought as she gazed at the ground not far away, as if that ground would suddenly burst into flames in the next second, but just then, she suddenly felt a cold hand press against her forehead.
“Are you alright?” Shirley looked at her “friend” with a bit of worry, “Suddenly her eyes froze …… and she muttered something in a loud voice.”
“I …… I’m fine,” Nina hurriedly shook her head and grabbed Shirley’s arm, “Thanks …… just suddenly remembered my family. ”
“Family ……,” Sherry was stunned for a moment at the words, then asked as if casually, “Who’s in your family?”
“Only an uncle …… My parents died many years ago, I grew up with my uncle,” Nina thought, her head slowly buried in her knees, “I promised him I’d be home early today ……”
“You …… you should be very close to your uncle, right?” Shirley seemed a little uncomfortable with this kind of topic, and like she didn’t know how to comfort her friend, as if she had no words to say, “What does he do?”
“He’s just an ordinary guy, our family opened an antique store in the lower city, he’s taking care of it all by himself ……,” Nina said slowly, waving her hand hurriedly after noticing Shirley’s surprised expression, “It’s not the kind of great antique shop you think of. awesome antique store that doesn’t have the real thing.”
“That sounds awesome too!” Shirley hurriedly complimented, “Store manager ah! Having a store of your own, even if it’s in the lower city …… then your family life should be good, right?”
“It’s actually quite average,” Nina continued waving her hand, “Uncle wasn’t in very good health some years ago, plus the business in the store wasn’t very good, so he didn’t save much money …… But I think Uncle is really great, he can even talk to Mr. Morris for a long, long time! He knows a lot of things, and Mr. Morris says he’s a knowledgeable man ……”
Shirley finished listening to Nina’s story and nodded her head pretending to be quite serious: “Then I must get to know your uncle when we go out ……”
Nina smiled, she was just about to open her mouth to say something when she suddenly heard a loud bang coming from the direction of the doorway – in the next second, the already not-so-sturdy water room door was kicked open from the outside and fell down with a clang!
The moment she saw this scene, Nina’s first thought was that the fire in the corridor outside must have burst into flames and swept in due to the door being broken, this was what she had learned in school, but in the next second, all she saw was a familiar figure striding through the door – the flames that she had expected did not appear.
Sherry was also startled by the loud bang of the broken door, and she looked back in shock, her whole body stiffening the moment she saw the figure in the doorway.
She saw the shadowy incarnation of that subspace standing silently in the doorway, and out of the corner of her eye, the last bit of flame was creeping and receding at the figure’s feet, and she got up in dismay, wanting to retreat with a hint of fear – for a one-hundredth of a second, she even considered whether or not to send Nina, her new “friend”, away. For a hundredth of a second, she even considered sending Nina’s new “friend” out of the room, but before she could take any action, Nina was already on her feet behind her.
“Uncle Duncan?!” Nina looked at the figure that appeared in the doorway with surprise, and in that instant it was as if all fear and depression had dissipated with the figure’s appearance.
“Nina?” Duncan also looked at this girl with some surprise – he actually followed the “mark” left by Shirley to find this place, and originally intended to find Shirley as a helper and then continue to search the remaining part of the museum together, but did not expect to see Nina directly here! But he didn’t expect to see Nina directly here.
The next moment, his eyes fell on Sherry.
So,…… what he heard through the “seal” before, the person who talked to Yukari was Nina,…… Nina said she wanted to go along with her. The “classmate” that Nina said she wanted to go with, is Shirley?
After a quick turn in his mind, Duncan already understood, and then he noticed the rapidly changing color of Sherry’s face, and before this summoner with whom he had a “destiny” spoke up, he took a step forward and looked around: “It looks like you guys are all right. ”
The next moment, he noticed that there was a third person in the room: a young lady in a long dress who was passed out on the floor, but appeared to be alive.
Shirley finally regained her ability to think at this time, her mind violently recalled what Nina had just said to her, and only after a long time did she turn her head slowly with a stiff neck and a face full of ghosts: “Nina …… he’s …… your uncle?”
“Yeah!” Nina said happily, then in a few steps she jumped on Duncan, “Uncle why are you here? The fire outside is out?!”
“Not yet, but the fire is contained.” Duncan blurted out, knowing that the vague statement would certainly seem suspicious under normal circumstances, but now that Nina was clearly in the midst of chaos, the startled girl just grabbed his arm as hard as she could, chanting one thing and another, “That’s great, I thought I was going to have to …… today! ” “Well, we’ll talk about what’s going on when we get out, this isn’t the place to talk,” Duncan interrupted Nina, and right after that his eyes swept over Shirley, and the lady who had fallen to the ground, “We’ll have to take the lady with us.”
“Ah …… good!” Nina reacted as an afterthought, rushing over to try and pull the lady up, and Shirley immediately ran to help – but that wasn’t easy for them due to the height difference, so Duncan took a few steps forward, ready to do it himself.
But the moment he reached out his hand to help the lady up, something suddenly came into Duncan’s sight, stopping his movement.
It was an amethyst pendant that looked somewhat familiar.
Duncan froze, slowly recalling that previous home visit from old Mr. Morris and some of the things revealed in the other party’s words.
“Uncle?” Nina’s voice came from the side, interrupting Duncan’s thoughts.
Duncan shook his head gently, glanced at Nina, and then swept his gaze seemingly absentmindedly over Sherry on the sidelines, smiling slightly, “Small world.”
With that said, he assisted the lady to her feet and proceeded to carry her on his back with the help of the two girls.
A group of people left the water room, outside the water room on the corridor can no longer see the flame, even the smoke is due to “unknown reasons” dissipated most of the time, Shirley looked at the dark corridor in front, hesitated for a moment before speaking: “Which direction to go?”
Duncan raised his head, just wanted to point out the direction, but suddenly sensed something through the “flame power” that permeated the museum, he changed his original direction with a thought, and quickly walked towards another exit next to him: “This way.”
Under the active retreat and guidance of the flames, they quickly left this place, and shortly after their departure, a group of figures suddenly rounded the corner of the corridor in front of them and appeared near the water room.
It was none other than the squad of Deep Sea Church Guardians that had rushed into the fire earlier.
This squad was grimy, but the oceanic blessings on all of them had yet to dissipate – they had rushed in with the determination of certain death, but were unharmed due to the sudden and rapid receding of the fire in the museum.
“The fire is out here too ……,” the priest leading the group frowned slightly, muttering as he surveyed his surroundings, “Even the smoke has dissipated.”
“It’s good that the fire is out.” A guardsman whispered.
“It is indeed a good thing, but normally a fire of this size wouldn’t go out so simply.” The priest spoke in a hushed voice, and suddenly, he noticed the violently damaged door to the nearby water room.
“Someone has been here ……” One of the guardsmen immediately stepped forward to inspect it, and after confirming the marks near the door, he skillfully took out the incense burner and prayer book, and put a set of special lens sets on his head.
The lens set appeared to be a half helmet made of brass tubing, cranks, and a series of lenses, some of which had intricate runes etched into them visible around the edges.
After placing a smoker on the ground, the guardian adjusted the lens set on his head and began to observe all the remaining clues in the neighborhood.
“No transcendent powers remain …… It’s a few ordinary people, the exact number of which cannot be determined, and the scent is confusing,” the guardian reported quickly, “It should be the tourists who were trapped earlier… …The door was damaged towards the inside, and it looks like someone broke the gate outside to get the people out.”
“Confirmation that there are no transcendent powers?”
“None.”
“…… Continue searching upwards.”
“Yes!”
