61. Chapter 61 – Reliable Siblings

Chapter 61 – Reliable Siblings

Stunned for a moment, Ivars subconsciously reached out and touched the red powder remaining at the corner of Yulia’s forehead.

He felt a hot touch coming from his fingertips – it was like touching hot water that had just been poured in through a glass, which would subconsciously cause his fingers to feel a burning pain.

The sweat that Yulia had soaked out had now turned into the heat essence oozing out of the Phantom Demon “Butterfly of Paradoxical Flame” inside her body!
Ivars suddenly recalled that on the day after the first warehouse explosion incident,…… that is, the day Hajna-senpai came to his house, Yulia did not wake up until dusk in the afternoon, and her body looked unusually weak.

And just now …… it was obviously just a warehouse bursting into flames, but Edward gave up on taking Aiwass home, and instead immediately dismissed Sherlock and went to deal with the incident alone. In the end, he came back earlier than Sherlock.

Ivars immediately realizes who the “culprit” of the two warehouse explosions is – and it’s not like there was a culprit from the beginning.

It wasn’t a demonologist trying to summon demons from the beginning.

Rather, it was because the “Butterfly of Paradox Flame” inside Yulia’s body had gone out of control!

The flames inside her body leaked out uncontrollably, ultimately leading to the two warehouse bursts of fire……. The Inferno Essence collected in the warehouse was not the imitation Inferno Essence synthesized by the alchemist, but rather, it was the residual traces of the “Butterfly of the Paradoxical Flame” after it had been active!
“…… Well, it’s glued back together.”

Edward sighed in relief with some fatigue, “I’ll leave the rest to you, Ivars. I’ll take a little break and explain it to you later …… You can help heal your sister first.”

As he said that, the invisible chains on Yulia dissipated. Rolling hot, she fell into Aiwas’s arms, unexpectedly feeling the unconscious girl looking a little heavy.

The cracks all over Yulia’s skin no longer glowed red or spewed out horrible tongues of fire and heat, but they had not yet healed completely. It looked as if her whole body was covered with fresh wounds cut by a knife, slowly oozing blood outwards.

And Edward’s lips were already dry from the roasting – he immediately poured himself a full glass of water after sitting down. After drinking it all in one go he poured a second glass in quick succession.

After drinking the second glass of water, he immediately closed his eyes and lay on his back on the sofa. His entire body was spread out, and he became weak as far as the eye could see.

Ivars also looked familiar. This was clearly a sign of magic power being almost drained.

He recognized clearly that the spell that sealed Yulia was not a Law spell learned by a Lawgiver – for it had no mark of Avalon on it at all.

This transparent shackle was more like the soul shackles of the Ancient Kingdom of Sabbath.

It was a warding spell that they used when capturing slaves, or performing sacrifices, that could directly bind the soul, thus briefly sealing the opposing mana pool. It was through releasing this spell at full power that Edward was able to force the Paradox Flame Butterfly that was about to hatch back.

Was this a spell he had mastered from Milton University …… or had his adoptive father taught it to him?
Doubt rose from Ivars mind, but he was too late to ask.

Yulia was just spared the fatal fate of having her belly broken by the Phantom Demon, but the high fever and fever in her body still needed to be dealt with.

“Give me clean towels, dampened with water.”

Ivar pulled the wheelchair and slid it over to the bed, speaking quickly to Oswald, “Warm water is best.”

“Yes, right away.”

Oswald nodded and went to do so, while Ewald frowned.

He removed the burnt and tattered pajamas from Yulia’s body and tucked her bottom half under the covers first. Taking Yulia’s upper body in his arms, he let her head rest in his lap, keeping her lying in a supine, upward position.

He reached out his left hand and placed it smoothly against Yulia’s heart from directly above. Closing his eyes he contemplated his own great release of light.

Aiwas’s palm blossomed with a radiant light, rapidly searing and expelling the injuries within Yulia’s body.

Yulia’s eyes could see that she had become much calmer, and her cheeks, which had been burned until they were scarlet, quickly began to fade, and the voice that was murmuring under her breath also became calmer. However, Ivars’ frown was getting deeper and deeper-

Feeling that his palm was already drenched in moist sweat, his expression became serious.

As he healed, Aywas clearly felt an agitated and wild heat that was flowing down his palm into his body in a steady stream. It was like eating very hot dried chili peppers and then choking and coughing, from the depths of his throat to his entire esophagus became fiery. A tubular organ could be felt as its presence in the senses became clear.

At this moment, this “hot” sensation appeared in the palm of Aiwass’s left hand, and along the palm of his heart flowed rapidly, hard in the middle of his left arm opened up a burning hot channel.

Ivars didn’t know what was going on, but he instinctively sensed the danger.

He let go of his hand before the heat spread to his heart.

And at this moment, Yulia’s breathing had become calmer. The rolling heat on her skin had also largely dissipated, and the blood-soaked wound was once again healing.

However, the heat did not immediately subside, but instead, it was stored in Ivars’ left arm.

It imparted an obvious swelling sensation, like the swelling sensation when the gums are red and swollen. The color of his left arm even became a bit redder than his right arm, and the temperature of both arms was different.

He frowned and didn’t immediately bother with his left arm, instead tucking Yulia back under the covers to preserve her body temperature and let her rest a little.

Though this might make the quilt dirty with her sweat …… it was, after all, Inferno essence, and would provide a nice warmth when it dried out instead.

“Here’s the towel.”

Just then – after only less than half a minute – clean towels soaked in warm water were brought over by Oswald.

Along with it, he handed over a basin of water and placed it on a side shelf.

Ewas nodded and took it, using the towel to carefully wipe the sweat from Yulia’s body.

After just a few swipes, the originally pure white towel turned red, but it didn’t look like the dark red of blood, rather it looked like he had wiped away the strawberry jam that had fallen on the table. He held the towel back against Oswald, signaling him to go wash it.

It took three repetitions before he had basically wiped all of the inflammatory essence that had precipitated out of her. He made a point of keeping some of it and putting it in his pocket.

And Yulia’s body temperature was finally restored, her head tilted as she lay down on the pillow and fell into a deep sleep.

Without waiting for Ivars’ command, Oswald had already brought in a soft and warm quilt. He wrapped the quilt around the outside of the old quilt and pushed Yulia, who was already asleep, into the new quilt with a roll. And replaced the quilt and sheets that had been contaminated by the Inferno essence.

“This quilt is clearly unusable – there’s residue of Inferno Essence all over it.”

Aiwas sighed in relief, leaning his body slightly against the wheelchair and explaining softly, “It’s the same as this basin. Even drying it out is dangerous – just a little bit of Inferno Essence remains after it dries out, and all it takes is a spark, or a slightly higher temperature, and they’ll just burst into flames. Similarly, it’s not safe to pour them down the drain.”

“I understand, Master Ivars,” Oswald nodded, clearly skilled in handling today’s situation, “I’ll go ahead and find a place to burn them.”

Witnessing the old butler’s departure, Aywas glanced at the sleeping Yulia and looked over at his older brother Edward.

He asked in a deep voice, “What the hell is going on here?”

“You should know that Yulia is the ‘Egg of Phantom Demon’, right?”

Edward, who pressed hard on his forehead’s center, exhaled deeply and replied in a tired voice in a low voice, “Even if you didn’t know it before, you should have guessed it after coming into contact with so many occult books.

“Yulia is fifteen years old this year. Generally speaking, it is difficult for an Illusion Demon’s egg to live past the age of twelve …… However, the Thupnos tonic that father purchased was able to make the Illusion Demon in her body always fall into a state of slumber, and the Blood Purifying Magic Pill could gradually precipitate the body fluids that were contaminated by the power of the Illusion Demon.

“But as she grew older, the repressed and accumulated power in her body grew stronger and stronger. Nowadays, twice the dose of Thupnos tonic can’t easily suppress that phantom demon anymore, and increasing the dose further risks irreversible damage to her nerves. The slightest fluctuation in her mood could induce the power to leak out.”

Speaking of this, Edward reached out and pressed hard on his temples, opening his eyes to look at Ivars, “Speaking of which, this matter is still more or less related to you.”

“…… and me?” Aiwas’ eyes widened in surprise.

“Right. She was nervous about you last week because you were attacked and put in a coma. She didn’t sleep well that night and came to see you a couple times. The next morning she started running a high fever.”

Edward said in a hushed voice, “Yulia had a premonition that she was about to lose control. But father hadn’t left by then, so Yulia immediately told him about it.

“Father dispatched Mr. Oswald and took Yulia to a nearby unoccupied seafood warehouse, where she was allowed to burn and cathartically release as much of her overflowing power as she could – that warehouse was a subsidiary of our family, and thus there was no need to worry about the warehouse holders repeatedly requesting for an investigation by the Inspectorate because of the property damage they had suffered , or hiring a private investigator to look into the matter.

“As a result, perhaps father forgot to re-enforce her seal after the last catharsis …… Today and because you went to Princess Isabel’s dinner party, or maybe you have to go to school tomorrow, or something else, in short, Yulia lost control again. It should have kicked in while Oswald was walking you out the door.

“At that time, you and Mr. Oswald had gone to the Princess Royal dinner, I had been invited by Sherlock to investigate a group of Lloyd District gangs, and father had left Avalon for a while. The other servants hadn’t been exposed to Transcendence, and not knowing who she should ask for help and fearing trouble for us, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I’m guessing she wanted to go to that last warehouse by herself. After all, it’s not far from home, it’s almost a fifteen minute walk …… but she wouldn’t know that it’s still under martial law today.

“The destination was inaccessible, and she didn’t know how the road outside was supposed to go. But she followed the road and started looking for unoccupied warehouses …… Eventually she got lucky and ran into an unoccupied abandoned stone warehouse before she lost consciousness.”

“Yulia who doesn’t recognize the road at all actually dared to go out alone ……”

Hearing Edward’s words, Ivars shook his head with some hindsight, “Luckily I didn’t run too far, I’m still in the White Queen District. It might have been dangerous if we had gone to the Lloyd District.”

“No, I do think she can actually remember her way around quite well. The last time she was only carried by Mr. Oswald, and that was with is high fever and fuzzy consciousness. This time she was actually able to find that warehouse all by herself with her remaining memories.

“I do think that her behavior was too decisive. If not, I’m afraid that the mansion would have been burned down by fire by now. A number of servants would surely have perished as a result, and her identity as a Phantom Demon’s Egg might have been exposed – according to today’s laws, Phantom Demon’s Eggs are usually subject to euthanasia.

“From that point of view, Yulia, she might have the adaptability of either the Equilibrium Path or the Wisdom Path as well. Rather than scolding, I think it’s more appropriate to praise her.”

Edward sighed, “But there’s no use talking about that, it’s fine now anyway. On an optimistic note, it’s probably a good thing too. Yulia has used the power of the Illusion Demon twice in a row and has almost exhausted it. I’ve also just used a secret method to re-enforce the seal – as long as she takes the magic potion on time next, even if her mood swings, she won’t be able to lose control so easily again.”

It was all over.

This big brother of Ivars, tiredly lying down on the sofa, said so.

Even though his clothes looked a bit wretched, half black and gray, half torn, Edward’s voice was still calm, steady and unhurried: ”Don’t worry, Ivars. It’s just too late in the day and too long a delay …… that’s why I need you to use the ‘illumination spell’. If it were daytime, I could have called Bishop Mathers to come and see it.

“This time the fire wasn’t as fierce as last time, but that’s what made me notice the flames too late. I was not at home that day – fortunately I happened to hear about it from Mr. Oswald this morning. That’s why when I saw the flames, I immediately thought of Yulia, and was able to rush over there in the first place.

“But her burning lasted so long this time that her spiritual shell started to crack and fester. Next time, if it can be suppressed in time, it won’t happen, and the sealing will become much easier.”

This man with a square face and serious expression, always frowning, calmly and clearly issued a voice belonging to a reliable adult, “This time it’s my fault, it’s because I forgot to remind father to check the seal, and father left in too much of a hurry …… This won’t happen again after this.

“As for the matter of the residual inflammatory essence, you don’t have to worry. Because of historical reasons and political reasons, there weren’t many alchemists that the royal family of Avalon could hire in the first place. The scholar responsible for testing the dangerous alchemy products brought back by the Glass Island Inspectorate is only that one person.”

“Who is it?” Aiwas pursued.

“Dr. William Wayne Westcott. He now teaches alchemy in the Secret Department, the sixth department of the King’s Law University, as well as anatomy in other departments. You might run into him at school as well. He is a close friend of father’s, and father has made a point of …… me accompanying you to school tomorrow and stopping by to say hello.”

Edward narrowed his eyes and calmly let out dangerous words, “I’m sure he’ll only give another result after the test.”

He then looked to Ivars for comfort, “Even though father is away, I will be coming home to visit every day for the rest of the year. If the Inspectorate is fine, I will not go out.

“You go to school at ease and study hard. Leave everything at home to big brother.”
