Chapter 33 – Hardcover book upgraded?
Chapter 33 – Hardcover Book Upgraded?
Saul once again observed the …… hunk of flesh on the teleportation table from a semi-immersed perspective, and this time it wasn’t covered with that blurry layer of holy light.
Suddenly, Saul sensed something.
He jerked his head sideways to look at the teleportation port, where a pair of eyes behind the black fringe were staring at him in horror.
Saul walked towards the teleportation port with the bone chopping knife that was hanging with minced meat and dripping with blood.
As soon as he lifted the black leather fringe, he saw the man who was crawling backwards and backwards inside.
The light from the room, poking diagonally into the portal, cut a line of light and darkness dividing the man’s face.
Saul narrowed his eyes and guessed the man’s identity.
“Seniors, first time meeting, come over for a chat.”
“Ah, that, haha ……” Hayden glanced at the knife held in Saul’s right hand and gulped a bit, “I-I just thought that the corpse seemed a bit strange, and wanted to come over to see if there’s anything on your side that you need my help with .”
Saul smiled.
“That’s really appreciated, I’m just about busy here, can you help me move it in?”
“Look at me ……” he showed Hayden his skinny frame, “I’m too young and weak to carry something that heavy.”
Hayden’s smile froze on his face, he was just being polite and courteous!
But looking at the bone chopping knife that Saul still clutched in his right hand, Hayden compromised.
He climbed out of the teleportation port with just one step, “Haha, you are too small, are you ten years old? Seniors to help you move haha.”
“Wait a minute.” Saul suddenly threw the bone-chopping knife back to the tool bench with a clanking sound, then turned back to Hayden with a bright smile.
“Senpai, I’m kidding, you’re really coming over here like this? Hurry up and go back, this is not a passageway for the living, I can do these jobs myself, otherwise my mentor might misunderstand that I’m not suitable for this job.”
“Huh? Well then, you can call me if you need me haha.” Hayden froze in mid-stride with no way to back out again.
Saul just stood at the teleportation port, lifting his tassel and coldly watching as Hayden backed up step by step and finally retreated back to the room he was in.
Across the room the tassel fell, and the light coming into the passageway from that side was blocked out.
This passage was three meters long and about a meter wide and high. It was surrounded by thick walls that separated the two rooms.
If it wasn’t for this passage in the middle, the soundproofing of the room must have been very good.
Saul put down his tassel and looked up, the candle lights on the teleportation port had already turned dim again.
That’s all for today.
There’s still some wrapping up to do, though.
So push the big box under the workbench next to the conveyor belt, then pick up the boning knife again and scrape the chunks of meat off the conveyor belt a little at a time.
A round gobbledygook fell down the edge of the conveyor belt, bounced on the floor a few times, and finally rolled all the way to the doorway, where it was blocked by the gate.
What’s that?
Thor walked to the doorway with his knife in his hand, ready to attack at a moment’s notice.
Upon approaching and taking a closer look, he realized that the object on the floor appeared to be …… an eyeball?
The clattering hardback book once again flew up and displayed itself in front of Saul, who was immediately on full alert.
[Sol Calendar 314, June 24th, Sunny
It’s been a great day, you’ve dodged the attack of a cunning enemy, sent him where he belongs, and harvested a Phantom Pupil.
That’s weird, why can eyes talk?
Or did you think the eyes were talking?]
This time the hardback book didn’t make much sense to Sol.
He didn’t read how the hell did he die?
Eyes? Hallucinations?
Could his eyes crack open? Does his mouth disappear, or does it get sealed?
And Saul noticed the sudden addition of a weather description after the date in the hardback book, which he remembered had never been there before.
Just as Saul stiffened in place, not knowing what to choose, the hardback flew back over his left shoulder.
But he hadn’t done anything, had he?
Saul’s eyes suddenly lit up as he thought, “Could this not be a death preview? Rather, it’s an appraisal technique similar to an item profile?”
Saul looked sideways at the hardback book over his left shoulder, “Man, you upgraded?”
Unfortunately, the hardcover book was quiet and still didn’t give a damn about him.
“Ugh, you should get yourself a profile first.” Despite his suspicions, Saul remained vigilant, gripping the bone-chopping knife in his hand tightly as he slowly approached the eye in front of the door.
Judging from the way the hardcover book was behaving, what had just been written shouldn’t be a death preview, but it was only Saul’s own guess, and he couldn’t let his guard down just yet.
Until Saul walked to the eyeball and slowly crouched down, took out a box and used the back of the knife to pivot the eyeball in, the hardcover book did not come out with another warning.
Saul stood up and sealed the box with the lid closed, his heart excited.
Although he had dodged the death warning many times, but each time the harvest was only to temporarily save his little life, I did not expect that today there was an additional drop.
It was just a pity that the hardcover book didn’t give Saul any hints before he noticed the abnormality of the eyeballs.
I wonder if it could be upgraded again in the future into a radar that could actively explore?
Putting away his Phantom Sound Pupils and and his fantasies about the Hardcover Book, Saul moved the muscles in his face to make himself look more somber.
Afterwards, he carried his bone-chopping knife and pushed open the door of the corpse room.
Since coming to the second level of the East Tower, he had never explored deeper into the corridors.
He traveled inward along the corridor, which was still curved, but looked at a wider angle than the tenth floor.
The lighting on the second floor seemed to be consistently dimmer than the rest of the building, and the further in he traveled, the dimmer it became.
At the end of the corridor, it was pitch black, and Saul couldn’t make out what lay hidden behind the shadows again.
After a dozen steps, a second scarlet door appeared.
This should be the corpse room where the senior in charge of the second process was located.
Saul went forward and knocked on the door.
It took a while before a voice sounded inside the door.
The door was opened a small crack.
Hayden’s face appeared behind the doorway, his torso blocking the light from the room.
“Elder, excuse me. My name is Sol, an apprentice who just enrolled a month ago. It’s rude not to know senior’s name yet.”
“I’m Hayden.” Hayden’s hand pressed firmly on the door as if he was ready to close it at any time, “I became a first level apprentice much earlier than you. What are you doing here?”
“I want to ask Elder Hayden, that corpse just now, did you feel anything wrong when you were handling it?”
Hayden moved his feet uncomfortably, “Ah, that ah, I did feel something strange. But I didn’t see what was wrong or where there was any value left in it, so I threw it over to you. Ha, I see you handled it pretty well.”
Saul stared straight at Hayden until the other man avoided his gaze and muttered in a small voice, “That, and I could have been wrong about that.”
Saul grinned a stiff smile, “Then I’ll have to trouble you more in the future, Senpai.”
Saying goodbye to Hayden, he turned and proceeded to the first corpse room.
Hayden saw Saul walk away and hurriedly closed the door.
Just as the door closed, his expression changed and he said in a low, grim voice, “What are you wimping out on a new apprentice for?”
Hayden’s expression changed again, rubbing his hands uneasily, “Well, no, there’s no need to start a conflict, we still have time to get along in the future.”
On the other hand, Saul put his bone chopping knife into the shadows of the corridor.
Taking the knife was to deal with Hayden, but not to meet Senior Byron.
He rubbed his face and his grim countenance became polite again.
“Knock knock.”
The same scarlet door slowly opened and light poured out of the house as a woman only half a head taller than Sol stood in the doorway.
Saul was stunned.
“I’m here to see Senior Byron, may I ask who you are?”
The woman’s eyes were half-closed and her voice, which had little rise or fall, rang out, “Byron he is of age to leave the tower and has gone back to pack his things.”
“Leaving the tower?” Saul instantly forgot his original purpose and asked in shock, “Could it be that when we reach a certain age, we have to leave the tower?”
