Chapter 20: A Good Man Always Waits for His Opportunity

Chapter 20 A good man always waits for his chance
Mark saw determination in Saul’s eyes.

Though he didn’t know how a newcomer who had just become an apprentice had resolved to witch body transformation on the second day.

It was important to know that he had hesitated for a whole month before going under the knife on his own hands in the first place.

But now, Mark could already see a certain value in Saul.

Being able to escape Midnight’s lab, the other party was definitely not an ordinary newcomer.

Either he was capable, or he had a backer.

“Then you can copy it first, this book is very straightforward. If you still want to study it in depth after reading it, you can come to the lab and find me. For this month, I’ll be here.”

Such a gentle Senior Mark made the other two newcomers in the lab drop their jaws in shock.

“Thank you, Senior Mark.”

Saul resumed his seat, he didn’t have much time, and he had to scramble to copy the book.

Mark left space for Saul and walked himself to the other side of the lab.

At that moment, Angelita, who had been watching from the sidelines for a long time, picked up the book in front of her and walked over to Mark with a sweet smile.

“Senior, when I was learning to construct runes today, there were a few places that never worked, can senior teach me?”

Angela held the book against her chin, showing her cute side as much as possible.

“Sure,” Mark smiled, “10 magic crystals, or 2 credits.”

The surprise that had just risen in Angela’s eyes abruptly died again.

She only had a few dozen magic crystals on her in total, how could she spend them on just a few questions?
“I… I’d better think about it again myself.”

Angela hurriedly returned to her seat and lowered her head deeply, afraid of seeing the mocking eyes of the others.

She thought that she could only find a chance to ask Mentor Katz, but her and Duke’s performance yesterday didn’t seem to satisfy Mentor Katz.

I wonder if the other party is still coming to the lab today?

A copy of Grimm’s Witch Body Transformation Cognition wasn’t thick, only a hundred pages or so, and it wasn’t a printed version, so there weren’t many words in total.

Saul also skipped some useless exclamations when he was transcribing, only extracting the dry stuff and making reading notes.

But for a newcomer with only two days of schooling, trying to fully read this book was still more difficult than he thought.

Saul was not polite, and holding the book, he went to ask Mark about it.

From the change in the other party’s attitude, Saul could more or less tell that the other party was intentionally compensating himself.

I don’t know because of what.

Is it that Saul managed to survive to make the other party jealous, or is it that the powder big shot was known by Mark?
No matter what the reason was, there was no delay in Saul taking the opportunity to obtain some payment first.

With Mark’s help in summarizing the points of knowledge, Saul’s speed of transcription greatly increased. He was completely certain that he would be able to transcribe all the important contents of the book before noon tomorrow.

This way the 2 magic crystals spent would not be a waste.

Mentor Katz appeared after 3:30 again.

Only he kept his brow tightly furrowed, as if he was thinking about some dilemma.

Duke, who intended to go up and ask a question, was casually held back.

The two newcomers then realized why other apprentices wouldn’t come to the lab to ask questions.

The patient explanations on the first day seemed to be just deceptive openings, and when you were introduced to it, it immediately revealed its true cold interior.

Duke failed to find a sense of superiority from Saul again, and looked a little flustered, secretly glancing at Saul with more and more complicated eyes.

But no one would have expected that Mentor Katz, after pondering for a while with a sad face in the lab, suddenly walked over to Saul’s side.

“Mentor?” Mark thought that Kaz had come to look for him and stood up nervously.

Who knew that Kaz stood in front of Saul, “You follow me.”

Saul was first shocked and then delighted.

Yesterday Duke and Angela were taken away, while he himself was left behind, equivalent to being abandoned by his mentor, but today his mentor actually remembered himself again.

What made him change his mind?

Saul hurriedly packed up and grabbed his books, quietly following behind Kaz.

They followed the slopes of the East Tower all the way down, occasionally meeting apprentices on the way who avoided to the sides of the road and bowed low.

As a new apprentice, Saul had not been to the lower levels of the East Tower.

The lower floors of the West Tower were where the stewards and servants lived, and the first floor, at the bottom, was a junkyard. The garbage that Saul used to receive when he cleaned the corridors would be brought back to the utility room, and someone would clean and carry it out at regular intervals; he himself had never been to the junkyard, and didn’t know what kind of place it was.

He had never been there himself, so he didn’t know what kind of place it was. He had only heard that the servants who went there were all old servants who had been there for years, and that they all had odd personalities, and hardly ever dealt with outsiders.

The further down the building went, the dimmer the light in the hallways became, and Saul kept his head down and followed Mentor Kaz closely, not looking in curiously.

But he was silently counting the floors in his mind.

9.

8.

7.

……

2!

On the countdown to two, Kaz suddenly turned and led him into the level.

At the entrance to the second floor, there was a large man who looked to be over two hundred pounds, leaning against the wall, sitting motionless on the floor.

The entire corridor, was blocked for the most part.

Kaz walked through that remaining gap with Saul, and the big man remained unresponsive.

Not two steps away there was a red wooden door.

Kaz pushed the door in and the panels creaked harshly.

Saul had just followed him in when a pungent stench, mixed with the smell of blood, drilled into his nostrils.

Saul immediately held his breath and looked up to see his mentor in front of him.

Mentor Kazi was as if he had no nose, his face expression not changing at all as he stayed in the center of this room.

The walls around this room were coated with a miserable white powder. Written on them as if they were graffiti were words that Saul did not recognize.

The good thing was that although these words looked a bit confusing, they didn’t make Saul feel dizzy.

In the middle of the room was a conveyor belt that extended out from the walls.

The entrance had a black leather fringe covering it, so you couldn’t see inside.

Next to the conveyor belt is a long table filled with square boxes of various types and sizes.

These boxes were all open at the moment, with nothing inside, but the edges and corners were stained with some unknown sticky items.

There were also clusters of fingertip-sized mushrooms growing on the outside of the boxes.

Some tools like hammers and chisels hung on the side of the table.

Below the long table likewise lay a large box on wheels. The mouth of the box was also open, and the inside was stained with patches of deep red and almost black.

The box seemed to be the source of the stench and blood in the room.

And there was a table and two chairs near the inside wall. The chairs were pulled out casually.

There were many books stacked on the table, as well as scattered single pages of paper, an overturned quill, and pens that had rolled along the quill to the floor.

“The first and second floors of the East Tower are the rooms where the corpses are kept. This is the second level.”

Corpses?

Saul pursed his lips, suddenly making the connection with all the sights he had just seen.

“If you’re up to the task here, you’ll get three credits a month.”

Sol looked up abruptly.

In the apprentice manual, it was written that one point of credits could be exchanged for ten magic crystals, and the credits were more useful, on the contrary, ten magic crystals could not be exchanged for one point of credits!
Saul couldn’t help himself, the “I want, I can, I can” in his mouth was about to push through his teeth and lips and come out on its own.

But he suddenly thought of Angela and Duke yesterday, were they also brought here? Had they been brought here too? Had they failed to meet Kaz’s requirements and were back in the lab today?

“What do you need me to do?” Saul tried to sound as calm and well-behaved as possible.

“Dispose of the alienated bodies.” Kaz said wrenching down a wrench next to the teleportation pad with his hand.

The conveyor belt rolled up and soon a fresh corpse broke through the black leather fringe and transferred to the two men.

Saul could actually guess that he would definitely be doing corpse related work. But he still couldn’t help but pale and take two steps back when the actual corpse appeared in front of him.

The body that was tied to the conveyor belt was covered with a piece of black leather, and its face was not damaged and was exposed outside the leather.

Saul instantly recognized that this person was actually the new apprentice that Korie had said, who had shredded his legs and buried them in the flower bed yesterday!
