Chapter 53: The Captain’s Not Home
Chapter 53 – The Captain’s Not Home
One will, focusing on two perspectives at the same time, controlling two bodies, doing completely different things, was a rather novel experience for Duncan.
It was also an extremely difficult challenge.
He thought that he should no longer be considered an ordinary person by now, but even so, it was not simple to control two shells with one mind without any burden, and he struggled to familiarize himself with this feeling of two minds, and in the end, after half a day’s tossing and turning, he was just barely able to control the body that was located in the antique store to climb back to the bed, and continue to hold up the body.
But judging from the feedback coming from the depths of his consciousness, he thought that sooner or later he would be able to master this technique of using two minds at once – it just needed a very long time of familiarization and training.
After settling his torso in the antique store and leaving a bit of his attention over there, Duncan finally breathed a soft sigh of relief.
Ensuring the connection to the “remote body” was the most important thing after finishing his spiritual walk, which was directly related to whether the foothold he had managed to find in the civilized world could be used for a long time, and after this matter was settled, his mood was much lighter, and he had the energy to pay attention to other things.
A sound of flapping wings came from the side just at this moment, the pigeon Aey ran to Duncan in three trips, the bird held out its chest with a strong pride in its eyes and tone, “The teleportation was successful!”
Duncan’s gaze crossed to the pigeon and landed on the tabletop behind it.
A pale golden sun emblem, as well as two bottles of spirits, were sitting there quietly at the moment.
A smile slowly appeared on Duncan’s face, followed by a widening smile.
Feasible! It was feasible for this pigeon to carry “goods” while walking in the spirit world! And it’s not limited to transcendent items, even ordinary items can be transported over!
With a satisfied smile, he got up and took several items on the table, first checking the condition of the Sun Emblem, confirming that there was still a faint flow of power in this transcendent item, which was the power of the Spiritual Body Flame that had already been completely occupied and transformed by him, and then picking up a bottle of spirits, he took off the lid and put it in front of his nose, and the strong smell of the spirit immediately came out.
Duncan glanced down at Aey, who had begun pacing the table with his head held high.
Efficient, quality-assured, and packaged – he was beginning to like this godawful pigeon.
The pigeon immediately noticed his ‘master’s’ gaze and trotted over to Duncan, pecking at the table with the shell of his beak, forcing loudly, “Whole fries! Whole fries!”
“There are no fries on board at the moment, but I don’t think that’ll be a problem anytime soon,” Duncan cheerfully grabbed the pigeon and cupped it in his hand, eye-to-eye with the other’s green eyes, “I just don’t know how much of a cap you have on the amount of matter you can teleport at any one time, if it’s limited to dead things, and if it’s possible to ‘packet loss’ situation …… This will have to be tested a few more times ……”
Pigeon thought for a moment and craned his neck, “Packet loss? Oops, the page is gone ……”
“…… Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of, you always struck me as not being old and reliable with that name.” Duncan’s mind couldn’t help but wander for a moment, the fact that the pigeon had managed to transmit more things to the Lost Country greatly encouraged him, it made him think of more actionable attempts that weren’t just limited to delivering supplies to the ship, however the bird’s fluctuating intellect and poorly-contacted logic always made him afraid to let go of his mind, and after thinking about it for a while he still felt that he needed to do a couple of more tests before he really established a “resupply” system between the Lost Country and the land. The “supply line” between the Lost Country and the land.
With a plan in mind, Duncan got up from his chair and walked towards the door leading to the chart room, but stopped just before he took two steps.
He moved the joints of his body in place and stretched his legs and feet, feeling the touch coming from his limbs.
Flexibility, strength, no sense of fatigue or sluggishness at all, as if he had only been sitting at the table for a short while.
However, he knew very well that he had been “away” from the Lost Country for more than a day, and while walking in the spirit world, his body had remained in the captain’s cabin, maintaining the position of sitting at the table.
Duncan carefully sensed the limbs and bones, through the accurate grasp of his own body, he is almost certain that this body maintains the state of the moment of the spirit world walk, as if …… at the moment of the departure of the consciousness, this body fell into some kind of “stagnation” in general. The body was in some kind of “stasis” at the moment the consciousness left it.
This is also the special power of “Captain Duncan”? Or is it …… because he is actually half a ghost now, so he will be as tireless as a ghost?
He thought curiously, but did not have the slightest clue. He had begun to understand the history of the world, the rise and fall of civilizations and city-states, but he couldn’t even solve the secret of his own body.
But anyway, it didn’t seem to be a bad thing, this body didn’t need much “maintenance”, which meant that he could feel more at ease to divide some of his energy into other areas.
Duncan was a very open minded person, or rather, he was very good at putting aside those temporarily unsolvable puzzles, and with that in mind he made his way to the door and pushed open the door to the chart room.
Captain Duncan had returned.
The oak door creaked softly, breaking the silence in the chart room, and in the next instant there was a sudden clicking sound from the carved wooden goat’s head on the edge of the nautical table, which darted its head in the direction of the sound, and under the vacant gaze it spoke slowly, “Name?”
“Duncan Ebnomar,” Duncan glanced at the goat head, “I’m back.”
“Ah! The great Captain Duncan has returned to his loyal Lost Country ship! I apologize Captain, you had a long walk in the spirit world this time, and I needed to make extra sure that …… This is after all a rule you set. How are you feeling? How is your mood? How is your body? How was this long spiritual walk rewarding? Was something interesting found? Would you like to share this walk with your faithful First Mate and the following omission? Did you notice I used the word “omit”? Ms. Alice said it makes the words a little more concise, and you might prefer it to be more streamlined ……”
“Shut up, what little words you condensed all made up for in the nonsense that followed,” Duncan gave the noisy contraption a look, “Did anything happen on the ship while I was gone?”
“Ah, Captain Duncan’s sternness and humor as always, your lesson is – all is well on board and your loyal following ellipses have performed the task you entrusted them with at the helm perfectly. Also Miss Alice has been here twice, but neither time was a big deal, once she fought with the cable and once she fought with the anchor rode ……”
Duncan was about to walk through the chart room to check on the deck when he stopped at Goathead’s words, he had a questioning look on his face, “Why did she fight with the cables and anchor ropes?”
He could sense the situation on the Lost Country during his walk in the spirit world, but he didn’t have much energy to pay much attention to it, and could only vaguely sense Alice walking around the ship “exploring”…… How is it that she was having such a lively time on the ship while he was away? I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do that.
“Oh, actually Miss Alice was kind,” replied Goathead, “she felt bad about doing nothing on the ship, and wanted something to do, so she went to sort out the cables and maintain the capstan – but I forgot to tell her that the cables are ticklish, and the anchors are not. The cables are ticklish and the anchor ropes need a nap ……”
Duncan: “……”
“Are you angry, Captain?” Duncan’s sudden silence caused Goathead to tense up instantly, he shook his wooden head back and forth, “None of it’s really a big deal, then again, new members of a ship always need to bond a bit before they can mingle with the older sailors – now that they’re into the ‘fighting’ stage, which shows that Ms. Alice’s integration into the group is progressing quickly. In fact she’s quite popular on the ship, most of the Lost Country ……”
Just as Goathead was in mid-sentence, he heard a sudden rush of footsteps coming from the deck outside, and right after that the door to the captain’s room was yanked open, and Alice rushed in hurriedly, “Mr. Goathead, why do the shells in the ammo storage keep rolling around not letting me …… “
Duncan gave Alice a silent look.
Alice also spotted Duncan standing at the navigation table, and the whole group looked at him stiffly and awkwardly.
“Well, this is the third time,” a sigh escaped the goat-haired man at the sailing table, “and this time she’s fighting cannonballs …… I’ll admit that Ms. Alice’s bonding process aboard the ship may have been a little too hilarious that way ……”
Alice scrunched her neck (probably reinforcing her joints) and looked nervously at Duncan, who had a wooden expression, “Captain, you’re back haha ……”
“Well,” Duncan nodded with a bemused expression, “It looks like you had a good time on the ship while I was gone?”
Alice: “……”
