Chapter 38 Offline

Chapter 38 Offline
The body was breathing, as if it had wandered around the edge of the land of the dead and had turned back to earth.

The black-robed believers in the room stared blankly at this scene, some of them did not even realize that the man in front of them had actually “died” once, because the moment of life and death is so short that they could not tell if they did not pay close attention to it, they just felt that the breath of their dying “compatriot” was suddenly smooth and strong. They just felt that the breath of the dying “compatriot” in front of them was somehow suddenly smooth and powerful, which made people extraordinarily surprised.

The next second, the man lying on the ground opened his eyes.

He seemed to have been in the darkness for so long that the oil lamps in the room were not bright enough to make him feel blinding, he blinked his eyes to adapt to the light, and then his eyeballs slowly rotated, as if he had just noticed the three black-robed men gathered around him.

“Thank the Lord for His blessings!” A younger black-robed congregation member finally reacted and couldn’t help but praise excitedly, “You made it through! I thought you would ……”

“Wait! Nope! Back off!” That low-voiced congregant, however, suddenly reacted to something, and with one hand, he stopped the others from moving, while staring hard at the man who had just awakened with vigilant eyes, and while stepping backward, he said in a tone that carried a threatening tone, “His breathing has just completely stopped, I’m absolutely not mistaken… . the situation is not quite right!”

As Duncan finally adjusted to his surroundings and the tinnitus-like noise faded from his mind, he took in the silhouettes surrounding him and the first thought that came to his mind was – how is this still the same gang as soon as he opened his eyes? How is this still in the sewer?

Walking in the spirit world is supposed to be random, and he was following his intuition when choosing his target, but he didn’t expect that both times he opened his eyes he landed in the middle of this gang of cultists, what kind of sinful fate is this?

But immediately after, he sensed from the reactions of those around him that something was wrong, and in the next second, he noticed the black robe he was wearing.

Duncan was silent for two seconds, and it had dawned on him.

Last round he had been a sacrifice to the cultists, then his eyes had closed and opened, now he was a “cultist”.

He had a real bond with these people.

“…… Something’s not right!”

At this moment, a low voice full of hostility suddenly interrupted Duncan’s confused state of mind after “awakening”, he followed the voice to look at, and immediately met an ice-cold sight full of vigilance.

The owner of that line of sight was coldly watching himself, and next to him, the other two black-robed believers also reacted with hindsight, and backed off to make a guard posture.

Duncan froze for a moment and suddenly realized – he might have possessed a corpse just like last time.

He was swindling himself in front of this group of cultists!

After understanding the situation in front of him, the nervous reaction of these cultists became logical, Duncan’s mind was running fast, he felt that the numbness and sluggishness remaining in this body had not completely dissipated, and now it was very inconvenient to move around, so it seemed not easy to mess up in front of several cultists, he could only think of a way to stabilize these people first – -And just as he was quickly thinking of a way out, a little fragmented fuzzy memory suddenly surfaced in his mind!
In that fragmented and fuzzy memory, he suddenly “recalled” a lot of experience fragments that did not belong to him – he remembered that “he” was hiding in the sewer, remembered that “he” had taken the money of the people in the sewer, and remembered that “he” had taken the money of the people in the sewer, and remembered that “he” had taken the money of the people in the sewer. He remembers “himself” offering his family’s money to the Sun’s messenger, and he remembers “himself” taking part in those dark, crazy and bloody rituals in order to heal his illness, drinking the blood of innocents in order to exchange for the “Sun’s blessing. “……

At the end of a series of messy memories, he “saw” the scene of the sacrifice ceremony, and saw many people dressed in black robes like himself standing next to a high platform, while a young sacrifice was pushed up to the high platform, and the young sacrifice wore a stiff and strange expression, which caused the whole ceremony to fall into a mess! ……

He saw the heart of the “Sunbearer” being sacrificed, and everyone around the altar was going crazy, the worshippers were killing each other, raging flames were flowing out of the sun totem, angry hisses and empty murmurs filled the assembly hall, and the original owner of his body and the last remaining worshippers fled in a hurry! ……

Duncan didn’t know how long he had been frozen, perhaps only a moment, as the strange memories raging in his mind calmed down again, and a sad and hateful life was reduced to a series of pale fragments that lay in the back of his mind as if they were for perusal – like some kind of “sustenance! It was like some kind of “sustenance”. These were the memories of the original owner of his body – not much remained, but there was no doubt about the source.

Duncan blinked, a change that had not occurred during his last “spiritual walk”.

Last time, he did not get any memories from the body he possessed, the brain of the “sacrifice” was only blank……. Why was there this change this time?
Is it because the body he occupies this time is still “fresh”? Or is it because the pigeon “Ai” strengthened the power of the brass compass?
Duncan slowly sat up from the ground, he knew that no matter what the reason behind this change, now is not a good time to daze, those nervous cultists have obviously realized that his “back from the dead” process is not right.

Along with Duncan’s movement, the three cultists immediately took half a step back, and then the black-robed man with a low voice pressed one hand on his waist to break the silence: “Don’t move yet – tell me, what’s your name?”

“…… Ron,” Duncan said rather naturally after a moment’s recollection, giving the name he had just learned from memory, “Ron Strain.”

“He is called Ron.” A young black-robed devotee from the opposite side of the room immediately lowered his voice to the dark-robed man with the low voice who was vaguely the leader of the trio.

However, that black-robed man did not let his guard down in the slightest, he just remained deadpan staring at Duncan, and then suddenly recited in an odd syllabic tone, “In the name of the day, may the Lord’s light shine, in the name of the day, may the Lord’s blessing come!”

Listening to the opposite side of the cultist’s sudden seizure of movement, Duncan first froze for a moment, and then immediately felt a burning heat in his chest, he subconsciously reached out and pulled out the thing that was glowing underneath his clothes, only to see that it was a golden-colored sun amulet – a burst of weird heat was coming from the surface of the amulet!
In the next second, the talisman burst into flames, which seemed to be full of malice, and came straight towards Duncan’s heart!
“The Lord’s glory is backfiring on him!” Seeing this scene, the cultist who had just recited the prayer instantly reacted, as he drew the short sword at his waist while shouting under his breath, “His soul has been replaced! Kill this heretical filth!”

The other two cultists were obviously a little slower in their movements, but then they also reacted, these people who thought that Duncan was a “compatriot” in the previous moment did not hesitate to draw the short swords and daggers that they had with them, and while lunging at him with murderous intent, they shouted, “Kill him! ”

Duncan, holding the Amulet of the Sun in his hand, which had already begun to burn, watched the three figures lunge at him, and in the next second, another shadow suddenly appeared at the edge of his vision!

A ghost-like undead bird, burning with ghostly green flames, tore through the air and swept across the rooftops wrapped in icy streams of flame, letting out a strange shrill whistling cry and spilling invisible shards of ash and feathers between its wing beats.

The three cultists were rightfully attracted to the “undead bird”, and they subconsciously glanced up at “Aey” in his spirit form.

At the next moment, all of their movements stagnated, as if the connection with the real world had suddenly become distant and sluggish, the three black-robed figures drew overlapping shadows in mid-air as if they were in frame-by-frame animation, and they slowly landed in slow, comical movements and finally came to a complete standstill less than two meters in front of Duncan.

With great horror in their eyes, they watched as the undead bird circled the ceiling and landed on the black-robed “compatriot” across from them, and they saw that the sun amulet in the man’s hand was still burning, but in the next moment, those burning flames turned into a ghostly green color, becoming the same color as that of the undead bird’s body. Undead Bird” in the same form as the flames.

Duncan squeezed the sun amulet in his hand, and the green spiritual fire wrapped around the surface of the amulet, and the stream of flames coming out of the amulet circled around in front of him for half a second, and then settled down like a pet, circling around his arm as if it was pleasing to him.

Holding the sun amulet that had been completely taken over and transformed, he unhurriedly arrived in front of the three cultists, and as he looked into the other party’s horrified eyes, he couldn’t help but sound regretful in his tone, “How much better it would be for you guys to pretend that you don’t know anything.”

In the next second, the silhouettes of the three cultists suddenly flickered violently in mid-air for a few moments, and then disappeared immediately afterward.

The skeleton-like “Undead Bird” with green fire wrapped around its body bounced twice on Duncan’s shoulder, and amidst the crackling sound of burning flames, it let out a sharp and hoarse cry: “Oops, the page is gone, try refreshing it?”
